I've no new book out this Christmas and it feels weird. I'm very proud of my previous ones though and many are 30% off this weekend with the code BOOKGIFT30.

Bar book-related plugs and FLA episodes, won’t be on here much for a while. Genuinely quite scared about the future and the lack of paid work. If you know of any book editorial work coming up, do email me (email in bio). PS I do have to work from home at the moment. Thanks c

NEW! #FirstLastAnything Episode 34: As a big fan of the album Pearlies by Emma Anderson (@emmaandersonmusic.bsky.social), I was delighted that Emma joined me on my music textcast to discuss it, her career in Lush and Sing-Sing, and some favourite recordings. firstlastanything.co.uk/2025/11/23/f...
FLA 34: Emma Anderson (23/11/2025)
As a first-year university student, one of the first songs of the 1990s I cherished was ‘De-Luxe’ by the London-based quartet Lush, who were signed to the independent record label 4AD. I was in the…

In an A Level class yesterday at my kid’s college, the teacher used a Gen AI image in a PowerPoint, and the whole class booed.

Yeah. You’ve got Gen Z on board, guys. Looking rosy.

On Tuesday's Middle-Aged Teenage Angst some of the indie releases of Autumn 1995. A few heavy hitters, a few that should've been bigger and me weeping for my lost youth in the middle of it. You know....fun. 8pm on noiseboxradio.com

Aye aye. Edge of Darkness starting a rerun on BBC4 on 1st November. One of those dramas that just leave you rubbing your eyes in astonishment as it just gets better and better with every minute that passes. If you've never seen it before, god but you're in for a treat. Ian McNeice intro, too.

Lets try this again. I use Audacity (two decades now) with a few plug ins and generally happy with it. But as I'm setting up a laptop from scratch, I am curious what other podcasters use - if anything - to sweeten their sounds that might make life easier.

(I would like to do more #FirstLastAnything in 2026 because the gap between S2 and S3 was way too big, but we'll see. I'm very happy with how the book's going, and thank you for all the support, but work is uncertain. If you need an editor or proofreader imminently, or want my art cards, do shout.)

Every single song played so far has been a gem! If you're not listening, you should be.
Then we had

Kraftwerk - Computer Liebe
Kate Bush - Army Dreamers
My Bloody Valentine - Lose My Breath
The Cure - Catch

and you'll hear the Hartbeat theme if you tune in now!

Tonight at 7pm I'll be doing my very best on the Weekend Wind Down where its an all 80s spectacular with nice and calm records from that decade @whenisbirths.bsky.social writes so wonderfully about. So get out of the groove and into your pajama bottoms and I'll see you later, pop fans.

I've never seen a complete episode of The Simpsons.
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.
