This is what sugar sounds to me: sugar cane fields being burnt around night for harvesting. The smell is sweet too. Wouldn't be my hometown without it, even if it's quite spooky 💕

my uncle is a doctor now but he worked as a mechanic many years and knows his way around how to build things and how to weld metal and so he customized an old wooden stove into a new grill and made it easy to light up 1/2

I still think about that nurse who thought I, a 31 year old woman, was a 14 year old boy. But it's all good since this is my regular look on a good day

8. "Femina" by Janina Ramirez

More audio nonfiction. Really good book with an affinity to try to understand why certain women were removed from historical accounts or why their writings were snubbed at different points. Very educational, openly anti-fascist, critical of bigotry in academia

6 & 7. The two final volumes of Dungeon Meshi

They of course had me in tears. Fantastic story.

5. "Niños ferales" by Walter Torres

Walter is a good pal of mine and a great writer. I was finally able to read this poetry collection of his and I adored it. Beautiful illustrations too

4. "The Black Death: New Lessons from Recent Research"

My friends at online bookclub left me with a taste for reading nonfiction via audiobook. it's paid me off handsomely. I love Dorsey Armstrong (the lecturer) and the way she explains things. This guide is understandable even for laymen like me

3. The Witch of Blackbird Pond

This book is great at world building and character work. Pay off is fantastic, and the development of the story feels grounded and honest. I may have cried.

1 & 2. Volumes 11 and 12 from Dungeon Meshi.

I love stories about food because they are stories about love, death, and loving that which dies. I came into the series with that mentality, and boy was I right. Fantastic exploration of the themes.
