In the *college level* chemistry class I teach, students needed to find 5% of 400 mL. "It's 5, because 5% of anything is 5, because, you know, 5." Others whipped out their calculators and said it was 2000 mL, because 5 x 400 = 2000.

One of the most stunning spaces in the National Park system is closed because repair funds aren't available. And the longer the road is unrepaired, the more damage it will suffer and the more it will cost to fix. That ain't my definition of efficient. @altnps.bsky.social

An interesting analysis of the lower-case 'd' democratic inclinations of the US from 2000-2023. Some states are getting better, many are getting worse. If we truly want a government that represents the voters rather than serves as employment for politicians, we need to learn from our mistakes.
