As usual, @markavery.bsky.social has it right. Things are not getting better for our wild plants
The 20-year efforts of #BSBImembers & the botanical community gave us #PlantAtlas2020, which provides the evidence base for much of this #GBRedList assessment.

New GB Red List for vascular plants from @bsbibotany.bsky.social @ukceh.bsky.social is comprehensive revision of 2005 list.
Plants are good indicators of the pressures on all our wildlife - things are not getting better.

As the world is showing, nature has the weakest protections imaginable. Communities buying up as much land as possible for nature remains a top priority. One way people can do this is through financially supporting conservation charities. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Hi @ukladybirds.bsky.social, this should be of interest.
Green Iguanas were identified as highly likely to arrive during a horizon scanning exercise (Dawson et al., 2023: doi.org/10.1111/conl...), and it looks they have. Well done on the intercept. 🦎

Controversial opinion: many scientists (probably a majority) are terrible at conversation. Conversation is an art. It requires listening and not simply talking when and however much one wants.

Found a young dead dunnock in my garden. No doubt the work of the neighbour's cat. Such a waste.

Missed #wildflowerhour yet again! But, the flowers were too lovely at the Keen of Hamar, #Unst ( #Shetland ), not to share. This site is special for its barren, rocky landscape of weathered, rare serpentine rock. We were lucky to see a late-flowering 'Shetland mouse-ear' (endemic).

About to board the ferry to Shetland, after an adventurous week in Orkney. Empty, white sandy beaches on Egilsay and Sanday, and impressive neolithic cairns on Rousay (Midhowe) and Sanday (Quoyness).

A mad week. Learned a pcr protocol to id male and female red campion flowers in Durham; various ACCE+ meetings: Impatiens soil sampling in 🏴; aquatic status of 889 plant spp assigned; commented on 3 manuscripts; meetings with the lab. Still have a grant proposal to finish, but off to 🏴 for a rest.
