I think GTA VI probably will live up to the hype for most players. It will be a big, pretty, reactive world. RDR2 showed that Rockstar could iterate and build on things that worked in previous games, something Bethesda has not done since Skyrim.

It does, but they also have an infinite money printing machine in GTA online. Bethesda is beholden to Microsoft, a company that is clearly tired of having a gaming division at all.

Rockstar is the one company on earth that can pull that off. Bethesda is suffering a ton for having been in the right place at the right time fourteen years ago.

I think Bethesda is doomed. They’re in this weird position where Skyrim is remembered as both extremely innovative and fresh and also patient zero for every problem with big open world games today. TES VI has to be both completely fresh and extremely accessible to be seen broadly as a success.
