Showing my 9th graders 'Romeo + Juliet' (1994).

Kids ask me why there's no fight between Leonardo DiCaprio (Romeo) and Paul Rudd (Paris), and I just tell them my theory that Paula Rudd was too adorable in the 90s for Baz Luhrmann to have killed onscreen.

They buy it. 🤷‍♀️

@rejectedjokes.bsky.social affectionately shaming David Tennant for not seeing 'Back to the Future' - but seeing 'Teen Wolf' - is how I hope I come off to my friends who haven't seen perfect films.

It's definitely not, but it's what I *hope* to be.

Genuinely love that 5 of the 10 of the Best Picture nominees had female protagonists and that the comedy about a Gen Z sex worker was voted best of them all -- it's fun when feminism wins something in this reality. #Oscars

Sean Baker begging us to keep going to the cinema and watching films together is more poignant than whatever Brody said 🤷‍♀️
March 3, 2025 at 3:34 AM
I love him but hey, Hollywood, Tarantino isn't the only autistic representation y'all have!

Adrien Brody should thank the A.I. that helped his accent in 'The Brutalist' 😬

Hey Oscars, just let them all speak -- it's literally not a problem for anyone.

#Oscar In Memoriam this year will be the first to include a man's career as they add Drake to their list

My hot take: 'Emilia Pérez' was originally an operetta, and it should have had the chance to be workshopped on a stage where it could have been given notes before ever being allowed on film.

All I'm hearing as Mick Jagger speaks is John Mulaney's impression of him saying, "NAWT FUNNEH"

Love that the production designers for 'Wicked' each worked on 'The Prestige' and 'War Horse' which both utilized practical effects *then* CGI to zhuzh it up. #Oscars

Zoe Saldaña winning for 'Emilia Pérez' proves 2 things: 1) she's the best part of her worst films (this and Avatar), and 2) even bad things have at least one okay thing

CinemaStreams is how I plan to explain to my 9th graders how to watch movies. #Oscars

@joefburris.bsky.social and I are doing our #Oscar ballots and added a category: Memoriam Snubs.

On mine, I added a note that they *will* include O.J. Simpson for his iconic Nordberg.

Sean Baker deserved the #Oscar for screenplay, but especially for all the words not said by Igor in 'Anora'

Had the pleasure to see all 5 short animated film nominees and each one was worthy of that statuette -- Big congrats to 'In the Shadow of the Cypress'!

Conan hosting the #Oscars is proof there are still good things in this reality.

Teachers hate being told to find our "why"...
Yet, seeing what happens to a country's elected gov't when the average nat'l literacy is a 6th grade level and its media literacy is at a TK level might be my "why" for the next 4 yrs.
