Interesting point heard thrown around is that they might not want to make the price too low to make it a lucrative purchase for non-gaming, since then it won't result in game sales (timestamped)

And would makes sense why they could do it somewhat with the deck, being more directly gaming oriented

For something a bit different from what others said - I think this is an excellent (and entertainingly presented) doc about one case of an indie developer (@writnelson.bsky.social and @strangescaffold.bsky.social, done by @noodleawesome.bsky.social) and things not going swimmingly for them.

I know you wrote that "this one is just for you" but honestly, from these snippets - I get you lol.
I also wonder what's your opinion on how dialogues were made in CPB77 - they follow similar pattern like that one tree sketch you made above, but it almost feels like the choice is not the point there

They forgot to make chess pieces into anime characters you get through a gacha.

Ugh, still in search for a job, so trying to manage somehow.
Otherwise, been playing Serious Sam The First Encounter for the first time to decompress a bit, that game is kinda bullshit but also a ton of fun, so it helps.

Brush Burial: Gutter World
Very grimy imsim, playing as some kind of demon assassin. Took me a bit of time before figuring out how the hotbar inventory/hands system worked (video is me still confused by it), but genuinely really cool from the demo level they had.

Zortch 2
Genuinely a treasure, no idea how I didn't stumble upon the first game before, incredibly fun FPS.
If making comparisons, what was in the demo felt like an unholy concoction of OG Half-Life and Serious Sam, in the best possible way. Now I *really* need to play the first one.

Fish^3: First Catch
Steam showed it in a "non-combat racing" category, so I decided "what the hell, sure".
And it is technically a race of a sort, so I'll give em this one.
You catch fish, it pulls you, you catch more fish along the way while dodging obstacles. Was really into the vibes of this one.

And that is a wrap for this Next Fest.
Final note - there are so few damn racing games, even at least just decent, not asking for a next Flatout over here. Am I just asking for too much? ugh.

Last but not least - Lac Viet Journey
"A typing game about Vietnam", which boils down to relatively simple loop - fly around a level while typing out Vietnamese dishes' names. Very chill and relaxing, although both controlling the bird and typing out stuff felt a bit too cumbersome.

Industria 2
Same thing as with Zortch - I'm surprised I somehow didn't play the first game (and I even own the damn game lol). Really liked the demo, survival horror gameplay bits are great, cool visual style also, somewhat reminiscent of Half Life 2.
(recording audio got a bit borked, idk why)

Tides of Tomorrow
In a most blunt way - basically "if a telltale game had async multiplayer", more specific - choices of players before you shape your play, and in turn, your play shapes the experience to the people who come after you.
Liked it a lot, curious how it will work out in the full game.

Heist Haven
Open World heisting coop FPS.
Genuinely a game concept I *really* wanna see done by someone, and honestly, this one kinda works as a proof of concept.
It's not that good of a game overall otherwise, but damn it makes me wish for someone to do this concept *properly*.
