Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

Here’s a blurb on what I mean:
Some thoughts: When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge. You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be. Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history. You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired. Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

I hate my current situation so much.

Almost full blackout in my city - only had 3.5 hours of electricity total today (from 5 to 8 am,and I woke up at 6:30 am today, ugh)

I can't draw digitally as much as I want - not just because of limited electricity, but also because I get tired so much faster.

This year, I'd like to give it a proper name and encourage others to join me in #artvent If you'd like to participate, starting December 1st, find people in the community who have inspired or impacted you and do something creative as a gift for them. I do digital art and primarily take my inspiration from other digital artists, but don't feel limited to that. Writers, musicians, suiters and just general members of the community are all incredible sources of inspiration. Your gift doesn't need to be visual art, either. For instance, you could compose a piece of music inspired by a character you like, sew a plushie, make a recipe inspired by a sona, get weird and creative. Don't feel restricted! Rules: 1. No AI. The point is to take the opportunity to be creative in your own way. 2. This is not a transaction. If you participate you are not owed anything in return, and if you receive something you do not owe anyone anything in return. These are to be done purely to spread a little positivity. 3. NSFW content is welcome HOWEVER!! that does not mean everyone is comfortable receiving NSFW content, including NSFW artists. This community is very sexually open, and many of us draw NSFW content but that doesn't mean consent to all things. Use your best judgment, and if you're not sure, ask them.

The saddest thing about Generative AI to me is that it diabolically blocks innate creativity (that, in my opinion, every human possesses) by replacing it with faux-creativity.

There is a chance that one of the people that fallen into Gen AI hole is a genius artist that was traumatized and gave up.
