[Panel 4] “おかああさん、(“Okaaasan! [Mooom !]) don’t embarrass me in front of Diana!” complains Akko with a pout. “Yes, what will Diana-san think?” agrees Akko’s father from the phone. [Panel 5] “We already changed our daughter for a trip, there is no hope for us!” She jokes, striking a dramatic pose that will surely get under said daughter’s skin. [Panel 6] “Ah, you admit it, then !” Akko shouts, playing in her mother’s antics. [Panel 7] “After all the work you must have done to send Akko to Luna Nova, you two deserve a nice trip.” [Panel 8] “Atsuko, you had not told us Diana-san was so polite, try to learn some matters from her this summer.” She snarkily remarks. [Panel 9] Akko pouts “If you wanted me to have manners, you should have taught them to me yourselves !” she finishes and sticks out her tongue with a very audible “MLEH” [Panel 10] Diana is a bit surprised by how Akko responds to her mom. She didn’t have that sort of relationship with her mother and so she wonders if their banter is usual or if they’re exaggerating it in front of a public, but it’s nice to see they’re close like that.

Diana for her part is just as surprised… by how physically close they are right now, and Akko doesn’t even seem a little conscious of it, focused on finding the right angle for the camera. [Panel 3] Akko’s parents are not even looking at their screen, too busy playfully chatting together. “Hey ! Stop bickering !” She won’t allow them to ignore this tremendous effort ! [Panel 4] “Otousan, Okaasan, this is Diana.” All smiles, she turns her head towards a very awkwardly waving Diana, still too impressed by the whole situation. [Panel 5] Akko’s father is in awe ! “あ、きれい! (“A, kirei!” [“Ah, what a beauty !”]) Akko immediately cuts him with an indignant “お父さん!” (“Otousan!” [“Dad !”]) [Panel 6] Akko’s mother turns her head to her husband once more and asks him sternly “Akito, behave.” in English this time. This will make communication for Diana simpler for sure. [Panel 7] Diana’s still surprised by this sudden “meet my parents” ordeal, but now that she’s seen them, it’s easier to introduce herself and greet them. “Hello. It’s nice to meet you, Mr and Ms Kagari.”

Diana is, well, was before Akko started shouting, reading on a bench with one of her dogs next to her. Akko, is sitting in the grass, accompanied by a mutt too, and is speaking to her parents, loudly : “最近ど?うん.うん.” (“Saikin dou? Un. Un.” [“How’s it going ? Uh-uh. Uh-uh.”]) We can’t hear what her parents respond to her. It’s been so long !”]) [Panel 6] Akko is beaming with joy, finally being able to see and talk to her parents after yearning for their presence for the last week, she’s trying to get as much as she can of them from this phone call. [Panel 7] “Dianaって-” (“Diana tte–” [“Diana is–”]) Her parents cut her, Akko is surprised by what they answer to her. [Panel 8] “あ、もう– わかったよ...”(“Ah, mou– Wakatta yo…” [“aaah, fiiine– I got it…”] Frustrated, Akko seems to give up on some answer her parents gave her. Diana definitely heard her name with Akko’s natural accent a moment before, does it have something to do with her ? [Panel 9] Akko turns her head in her direction, this was about her indeed ! And why is she pouting, like she’s in distress but also embarrassed ? [Panel 10] She stops facing her, too self conscious to look at her while transmitting her parents’ word. “Uh, Diana? My parents want to meet you, is that alright ?” she finally asks. [Panel 11] Diana is taken aback by this, too formal, demand. She doesn’t realize she’s gripping her book, flustered as she is. She simply answers “Um– Yes, of course.”

[Panel 2] “If my aunt found out we wanted to bring back even a piece of our legacy, I worry she’d try to twist it into a profit. I don’t want my family’s history to get turned into a theme park.” From this angle of her side, Bernadette’s tree has an almost solemn expression, as if she was approving of her daughter. [Panel 3] Akko observes the tree, wind whistling in her ears. “No kidding…” she says, witness to the very presence of her family history. Understanding the headspace Diana was in, her hesitation makes sense. [Panel 4] She nods in resolution, ready to help her friend no matter what. [Panel 5] She grabs Diana’s hands in a show of confidence, and while Diana blushes once again in surprise, Akko stays unfazed as she excitedly declares “Well, we can think of a way to still work on it without her finding out. We managed to restore a Word, and, eh… mostly stopped her from interfering with the ritual WHILE she knew what we were doing. I bet we can find a way to work on this !” [Panel 6] Diana is charmed once again by her partner’s motivation. “Very well, let’s do it.” she agrees to whatever slither of an idea Akko has. “やった (Ya-t-ta [Yes !])” she yells as she jumps for joy, raising her fist in the air, in victory. [Panel 7] “So, shall we eat these pastries ?” Diana offers as she already got the sweets in hand. “Finally !” Akko obviously validates eating the rather well-earned snack. [Panel 8] “To good fortune !” They cheer, in celebration of their future work to come as they both “toast” the pastries.

Did I do something wrong ?” she asks, sweating heavily. [Panel 2] Diana realizes she didn’t introduce the topic quite reassuringly enough. “No, not at all ! In fact…” [Panel 3] In a flash, she turns away her head and winces in abashment, as she explains herself. “By the Nine, this is so embarrassing. She told me she wanted me to keep being on good terms with you.” [Panel 4] Akko is still confused, “Oh.” she briefly lets out, still unsure if it’s a positive or a negative to Diana. [Panel 5] She scratches her chin, with a little smile. “That’s good. We’re on good terms already, easy peasy.” she claims, somewhat relieved. [Panel 6] However, Diana’s hands keep twitching in discomfort. She still argues, tense. “Yes, but I know my aunt, and even though she seemed sincere, a part of me still feels suspicious about her motives.” A pause to think about her next words. “She… advised me to keep you close because you’re the Savior of Magic, and thus an important witch in the future.” [Panel 7] “Your aunt thinks I’m going to be important ?” She paraphrases, dumbfounded to be of any meaning to Daryl. [Panel 8] “Akko, you’re already important.” She responds, a little worried about Akko’s lack of self-confidence and awareness. [Panel 9] She turns her head away again, listing her aunt’s possible intentions makes her uneasy. “The problem is there might be people who would want to take advantage of that. And I fear my aunt might be one of them.” [Panel 10] Face to face again, she leans towards Akko and looks her in the eye to prove she is being sincere. “I want you to know that’s not my intention. I would never take advantage of our friendship in that way. I hope you can believe me.” she pleads. [Panel 11] Akko is, frankly, not doubting any of this, at all. [Panel 12] Actually, she is a bit bothered that Diana would doubt her faith in her. “I would never think that.” She concludes leaving no ambiguities, self-assured.

Her face flushed red, she looks away from Akko in search of some excuse to come up with. [Panel 2] She turns away suddenly, still jumpy, and manages to mumble “Um, the– the pastries…” as she looks for it, hoping it will lead the situation back on rails despite how obviously forced it sounds. [Panel 3] Akko is stunned, she finally processes what is happening. Her hair is a mess and she’s clearly distraught by both her sudden show of passion and Diana’s evasive reaction. Reality shatters as panic gets to her. [Panel 4] Behind Diana’s back she starts blaming herself, “What the HELL is wrong with you, Kagari ?!” she thinks, anguished by how things turned out. [Panel 5] Putting her hands to the sides of her head and resisting the urge to cry out loud in emotional distress “You were just talking about being impulsive !” [Panel 6] “And right in front of her dead mother ?!” She’s looking at Bernadette’s tree, was the look on her face always so stern ? Akko can’t remember but she’s feeling guilty. [Panel 7] Upset, she tries to keep it together in vain by repeating her motto to herself “Repeat it ! Mayenab Dysheebudo ! Mayenab Dysheebudo !” [Panel 8] Meanwhile, Diana still is calming down from all her confusion, she keeps her eyes close, perfectly still, nervously thinking about her next step. She feels guilty about her reaction as well. [Panel 9] After deciding what move she should make, she calls out to her “Um, Akko ? There’s something… I have to tell you.” She turns her head back towards Akko, she is worried but has to address things with her. [Panel 10] Akko, far away from her, still distressed and gloomy despite her best efforts. She comes back to reality when she realizes Diana called her, her face still red she faces her with surprise “はあ? [Ha-a]” [Panel 11] Diana joins her hands on her laps, fidgety. Despite now directly talking to Akko, she can’t look her in the eyes. “Yesterday, when I, um, spoke with my aunt, she told me something that concerns you.”

[Panel 1] Akko, alone in the frame. Her mind wanders off, the world seems to fade away, as she intently stares at their joining hands. Her eyes reflect a certain subconscious surprise to this turn of events. [Panel 2] An instinctual reaction, not guided by any train of thoughts, leads her to closing in. Her gaze up again, should meet Diana’s, but is still oblivious to her surroundings. [Panel 3] She keeps leaning in. For what ? She doesn’t know. She doesn’t even notice she’s leaning in. Diana doesn’t move, her words would be lost on Akko, but she doesn't utter a word. Instead, their lips gently open, like they’re readying to share… to share what, exactly ? [Panel 4] Diana’s eyes are completely focused on Akko. She’s also blind to their, so natural and yet intimate, closeness, lost in Akko’s eyes. [Panel 5] Sudden realization. Her eyes widen, her whole body flinches, snapping out of it. [Panel 6] Akko regains awareness, staggered as well. They’re close but Diana has moved back a little in surprise. What’s going on ? They both know what’s happening, but is it real ? They’re frozen in shock. Did the other realize too, did they read too much into it ? Can they play dumb after that ? Why would they even back down from *that*, since nothing happened ? So many questions go through their minds at such formidable speed, sharing the tension in the air between them in complete stillness and silence.

It reminds me of those moments with her.” She expresses with a sadder smile. [Panel 6] Offering them to Akko, she continues. “She died in autumn, so I find that season a bit colder than winter.” [Panel 7] She takes out a bag of pastries, the one Akko gifted her before. [Panel 8] Akko’s genuinely upset again. [Panel 9] With regrets, she apologizes to her, but doesn’t muster the courage to look at her while doing so. “I’m sorry, Diana… I said some mean things about your family last time. I hadn’t realized… I shouldn’t have assumed anything.” [Panel 10] Diana gets closer to her, her hand reaches for hers, she doesn’t hold it against her. “Oh, Akko. How could you have known ?” [Panel 11] Diana’s hand gently lands on Akko’s fist, which she relaxes over her soft touch.

[Panel 5] Akko faintly blushes and smiles watching her in such tranquility. Her lips meet the cup she was holding. [Panel 6] Ready to tackle another dose of nostalgia, and interested in learning more about her friend, she asks her. “Tell me about your mum.” [Panel 7] This interrupts Diana’s reverie, she wasn’t expecting it and turns her head in surprise as she was raising her hand to take another sip. “What’s your favorite memory of her?” [Panel 8] “Hmmmm…” She takes a moment to think about it, looking in the distance as she muses on her childhood. [Panel 9] She finally decides on a story to tell. “I have many, but… One time, I think it was around Yule,” [Panel 10] “we wanted to camp out but it started snowing so we couldn’t stay outside overnight.” A memory of a young Diana, observing the snow through her window, distressed at the idea of her plans being cancelled. [Panel 11] “That disappointed me, so she turned the living room into a fort; she brought blankets and quilts from all over the mansion and then used magic to hang fairy lights around the room. It looked heavenly and we stayed up until very late while she read to me holiday stories until I fell asleep, as warm as I’d ever been.” A beautiful image of a child, her teddy bear and her mother, in a pillow fort glowing with warmth and little light orbs, under the blankets with, reading stories together. Alt Text by @witchpunkleha.bsky.social [Panel 1] In prey to sudden distress while sitting down, Akko anxiously inquires about Diana’s health “Diana, if there’s magic ailments in your blood, does that mean–?” [Panel 2] Diana doesn’t let her finish her thought and calmly invalidates it with a negative nod “It’s a very rare disease, and something in my mother’s body was especially susceptible to it.” [Panel 3] Her hand lands on her chest as she keeps going “But no, I don’t have it and neither does any of my family. I couldn’t trust not passing it on to children –if I ever decide to have them– but you don’t have to worry about me.” [Panel 4] “Would you like a refreshment?” She casually offers, smiling as she draws out of the basket a pair of cups. Akko mumbles in agreement “I guess”, perplexed by the rapidity at which Diana changed the mood. [Panel 5] As she pours the drinks, she gives a fun fact to keep the conversation going. “Remember I told you about Queen’s wood? These cups are made from Queen’s wood from this forest.” [Panel 6] Akko is mortified by this anecdote! “Y-You don’t mean that these cups are made out of a witch, do you?” [Panel 7] Diana is embarrassed by this misinterpretation. “No! Sorry, I should’ve explained.” [Panel 8] A shot of a surprisingly normal tree amidst the other twisted witches. “For some reason, Queen’s wood trees are prone to grow near Witch Trees.” [Panel 9] A close up of the cup that was made out of this fine wood, filled with liquid, in the hands of a young witch. “Since there is a high concentration here, that’s why it’s usual. This forest is home to our family’s Witch Trees, but not every tree is one of those.” “あ,そうか... [Panel 2] Akko’s still absorbed by the grave in front of her. [Panel 3-4] Her gaze eventually falls down to Bernadette’s plate, which reads ‘Bernadette Cavendish, 1969-2009’. “Next year is the tenth anniversary of her death.” Diana tells her from behind, snapping her out of it. [Panel 5] A shot from over them, in the small clear around the tree. She turns towards Diana, who is heading towards the basket she brought with her. “I’m sorry. How did she… ?” She doesn’t finish her sentence. [Panel 6] Diana’s hand reaches for the picnic. “She had always been sickly, way before I was even born. According to aunt Daryl, ever since she was a child, in fact.” [Panel 7] She unfolds the picnic blanket, not stopping her motions to tell the story of her mother. “After I was born, an ailment took hold of her–r” [Panel 8] She softly prepares the blanket down on the grass. “–and little by little it consumed her.” [Panel 9] Akko is still in shock, she feels sorry for her. “An ailment? Didn’t doctors know how to cure it?” [Panel 10-11] She smiles faintly with a saddened, painful expression and replies. “One of the problems of being part of an ancient magic lineage is that for as long as there’s been magic in our blood, there too are magic illnesses but no remedies, since the knowledge has been lost.” She explains, while putting down the cutlery on the blanket. [Panel 12] Akko realizes after hearing her story and somberly asks. “That’s also why you want to restore the hospital, isn’t it?” [Panel 13] Emotions run high on Diana’s face, she simply nods as an answer.

Magic has been gone for so long I doubt there’s many –if any– witches out there who do.” [Panel 3] “We will probably have to rediscover most of the ancient knowledge ourselves.” The worried sense of duty that weighs on her starts creeping back on her face. [Panel 4] “Ah– We’re here.” Reaching it, Diana’s future responsibilities stop worrying her, brought back to the present, she smiles with relief. [Panel 5] A closeup of the tree’s face. “Hello, Mother.” [Panel 6] They now stand in front of Bernadette’s grave, a small tree mostly formed of the hair and face of her deceased mother, that will probably keep growing even after her daughter rejoins her. But the beautiful twisted tree still towers over them. “I’m sorry I couldn’t come sooner. But I’d also like you to meet someone. This is Atsuko Kagari, a classmate of mine at Luna Nova. She came all the way from Japan to study magic. She is also the one who brought it back into the world.” Diana smiles with care and nostalgia for this tree as she presents Akko to her mother, the latter awkwardly grabs her own arm, not knowing how to act when you’re meeting the deceased parent of a friend. [Panel 7] “Can you believe it? What we wanted, it finally happened.” Diana stares at the tomb with so much affection, she truly is happy to share this news with her mother, whom she’s known more under this form. [Panel 8] Akko looks at the tomb in admiration and understands she is meeting Diana’s mother, and in some way, for Diana, this is the mom she heard so much about. [Panel 9] Akko steps up to close the distance between her and Bernadette. She raises her head and greets her. “It’s an honour to meet you…” [Panel 10] She respectfully bows to her. “...Mrs. Cavendish.”

Diana reveals their location to Akko. “It’s the Cavendish graveyard. Here lies every Cavendish witch since Beatrix.” [Panel 2] Diana keeps looking into the distance, with her melancholic eyes. “Someday, I too will be part of the forest, if I’m fortunate enough.” [Panel 3] A close up shot of an ancestor's tomb, covered in foliage. [Panel 4] Akko is deeply in thoughts after this revelation, “Mh?” she mumbles, as she slowly pieces it together. [Panel 5] She suddenly looks in Diana’s direction, a bit panicky as she thinks she may have overstepped by coming after understanding the purpose of their trip. “Diana! Are we… ?” The rest doesn’t come out. [Panel 6] “I planned to come before but there was always something to do.” she replies without needing the rest, as they walk over a bridge. “I’m sorry if I distracted you! I… didn’t know.” Akko apologizes. [Panel 7] Diana turns her head in Akko’s direction, so she can see her face and with a smile she tells her “Oh no, don’t worry about it. It was nothing you did; in fact, I wanted you to come.” [Panel 8] Akko still is worried, and a little perplexed. [Panel 9] She stares at Diana from behind, her eyes still lost into the distance, her smile has vanished. Diana looks to be lost in thought, perhaps a bit sad in her demeanor. [Panel 10] They get down from the horses, near a strange open gate. “Are we there?” Akko wonders as she and Diana are undoing the horses’ gear up. [Panel 11] Still paying attention only to her destination, Diana tells her gently “Just a bit further along this glade.” [Panel 12] They start walking on foot and get into another area of the forest. Light here gets through the trees and Akko reaches for the rays. “It feels both denser but brighter around here.” “Yes, I think so too. This is where the, ah, younger trees are, so I wonder if the more recent magic is the culprit.” [Panel 13] They continue on the woodpath to their final destination, surrounded by rays of light, and magical trees, each an eerie tomb in this bright forest.

It’s exciting like this!” Akko is beaming with joy and Diana also displays a small smile, as they ride. [Panel 3] Brego raises his head and Akko seeks the approval of Diana “Although… Do you think I’m ready to take him by myself?” [Panel 4] Diana reassures her, looking in her direction with an assured expression “Of course.” [Panel 5] “Besides, he already knows where we’re going, so you don’t have to worry.” They continue trotting down the countryside path. [Panel 6] They enter the nearby woods. Despite being a simple path surrounded by trees, it seems massive compared to them. [Panel 7] We see Diana and Akko venturing further into it from above. “Wow, what is this place? It feels funny.” Diana explains “That’s magic. I wondered if you’d perceive it more, considering you can do it at home.” [Panel 8] Akko reaches her hand for the air around her and tries to process the feeling it gives her. “It’s like… steam after a hot shower, but fresher? Or when you’re completely underwater.” [Panel 9] Diana also gazes in the distance, sharing her melancholic thoughts about it. “To be honest, I wondered if this place would get affected at all by the Tree. And it seems it has…” [Panel 10] Akko stares at her in incredulity. “Why? What’s this place?” [Panel 11] Akko, having ignored the scenery, gets frightened by the sudden appearance of a witch’s face in the bark of a tree and screams. “AH!”

[Panel 5] Diana is flustered, her hair messy from her resting position, she stutters “T-thank you, Anna. We’ll… we’ll be there soon.” [Panel 6] Not oblivious to Diana’s sudden shyness Anna offers “Do you want me to wake her up, milady?” Diana answers, embarrassed. “Um, no. No, I will do that myself, thank you.” [Panel 7] Anna turns over to leave the room. “Of course you will.” [Panel 8] Akko is still sleeping like a log. Diana starts trying to wake her up. “Akko? Akko, wake up, it’s time for dinner. Akko.” Doesn’t work. [Panel 9] “Dinner’s ready.” Akko opens her tired eyes with a little “Huh?” [Panel 10] Akko’s brain has processed the information, she is now all bubbly and fully awake. “Oh, sweet! I’m starving!” [Panel 11] She crosses her legs and Diana joins her on the sofa. “Sorry I fell asleep. Did you find out what you were looking for?” “Don’t worry, I lost track of time. But yes, although there are some questions that I want to ask Aunt Daryl later.” [Panel 12] Akko checks out her phone and shouts in sudden realization. “Oh, shoot! I was supposed to call my parents today!” [Panel 13] She’s now a bit depressed and disappointed in herself. “Damn, it’s too late to call now. Hope they didn’t wait for me too long.” [Panel 14] Diana is deep in thoughts after hearing Akko say this.

I assume my aunt asked for it.” [Panel 2] Anna answers seriously. “Well, no. She went out with the twins and said they would be back late.” Akko, from the couch, half hidden by the sofa, observes. “Seems like we have the house for ourselves.” [Panel 3] Akko hides behind the sofa mischievously, ready to suggest a prank. “Where should we let Brego and Cupcake in first?” [Panel 4] Anna and Diana laugh at Daryl’s mental image. [Panel 5] Sliding to the other side of the sofa, Akko comments on Diana's reach for the bookshelf. “Wait. Reading?! You spend the whole year at the library at school anyway, why–” “I need to research something, it will not take long.” [Panel 6] She gives her a book. “Here, this will keep you entertained while I do that.” Akko is not convinced by this idea. [Panel 7] The book’s cover reads “100 YEARS of WITCH OUTFITS in Great Britain and AROUND the WORLD” [Panel 8] Akko lounges on the couch and opens a random page of the book, skeptical. “How much do you wanna bet that ‘Around the World’ actually means like, three countries in Europe.” Diana’s about to sit to read another book, but takes the time to jokingly answer to her. “Hmmm. And America, too.” “Pff, probably only the United States.” [Panel 9] Diana turns her gaze to Akko, now laying down on the couch to read, with a soft smile. [Panel 10] She caresses the cover of her own paper, titled “Covens, Councils, and Conventions of the 20th Century”. [Panel 11] The clock is ticking, it’s now almost 7PM. [Panel 12] Diana is deeply focused in her reading. Akko fell asleep in the background. [Panel 13] Her snoring disturbs Diana who now notices she’s sleeping. Little Witch Academia fancomic. [Panel 1] Diana’s boot shows she’s walking over grass. [Panel 2] Diana is pouting and sighs. “How’d it go?” she hears. [Panel 3] The voice startles her, not expecting where it comes from. [Panel 4] Akko is laying on the grass with Brosia on top of her. She looks up at Diana waiting for the answer. [Panel 5] The panel is upside down, showing how Akko is looking at Diana from the ground. “I have to process what said still, but I'll tell you about it when I have.” [Panel 6] Akko sits up and Brosia rolls away. “Hmmm. Okay.” Akko doesn’t push. [Panel 7] Diana stands there awkwardly, not knowing how to work around the lack of nosiness from Akko. [Panel 8] “Do you want to practise broom racing? Winner gets to decide what we do tomorrow.” She finally asks the younger witch, who is playing squishing Brosia’s head. Akko’s attention starts at what she hears. [Panel 9] Profile of both of them, really close with smug looks on both their faces. “Diana Cavendish, I hope you’re ready to swim in the lake, because I’m gonna win!” Akko threatens. [Panel 10] A while later, they’re both entering a new room in the mansion, filled with books. “–Honestly, if it hadn’t been for that stupid bird, I would’ve won!” Akko whines, pointing out the door. [Panel 11] “You keep telling yourself that.” Diana is feeling proud of her victory while Akko’s hair is covered in twigs and feathers. Akko pouts and Diana sparkles all around.

[Panel 1] Diana is leaning against her aunt’s study’s door in silence. [Page 2] She starts thinking to herself everything that’s racing in her head. “Well, this changes things. She says not to worry but… Is this another one of her schemes? It’s the first time I’ve heard her cry. We’ll have to be careful around her anyway, we can’t afford to…” [Panel 3] She continues thinking to herself. “Akko needs to know about this. …Should I?” her absent stare trades its place for a worried one as she starts connecting her to her thoughts. [Panel 4] She grasps her chest in sudden regret. “She has to be prepared for all of it. Maybe I shouldn’t have invited her, allow my aunt’s claws–” [Panel 5] She starts panicking about potential scenarios “Beatrix forbid she thinks it was all planned–” [Panel 6] She interrupts that thought. “No. Akko would not think that.” She cools down. [Panel 7] A view of the windows of the mansion. “But the Council is still a concern. The other girls must be warned too. At least they have magical families to rely upon.” [Panel 8] Diana’s hand covers her head, in a mix of frustration and headache because of the complexity of the situation. “Again, Akko is the only one…” [Panel 9-11] She reminisces on Akko’s journey at Luna Nova, moments from the series appear. “Without a magical family or background and almost no knowledge of magical policies…” [Panel 12] “Could Professor Chariot be of help?” The professor’s silhouette appears in her mind. “But she’s also spurned, her voice might not be heavy enough.” [Panel 13] Diana has decided on what she should do. “So it’s settled. Beatrix help me find the right words.” [Panel 14] Akko’s exuberant smile flashes in her head. [Panel 15] Diana gets moving, a soft smile on her face. “Well if there’s someone who’s good with Words, it’s her.” [Panel 16] Her hands joined behind her back, she starts walking down the corridor.

[Panel 3] She painfully continues. “Of course, it can’t compare, but I was suddenly in charge of the whole House, for which I had no legitimacy from the ritual –and no possibility to ever achieve it– as well as a young child who had just lost her remaining parent. [Panel 4] Diana’s eyes magnify with emotions, as the discussion brings back memories. [Panel 5] Diana apologizes. “I’m sorry you had to go through that, Aunt Daryl.” [Panel 6] “No, Diana, it’s me who has to apologize. You were –and still are– only a child. Last time we saw each other you… Well, let’s just say that it’s my responsibility to know better.” [Panel 7] Genuine regret shapes her expression, as she looks to the side of her desk. “I suppose… I resented Bernadette for leaving me.” [Panel 8] The corner of the desk she’s looking at, displays a glass, a pen, but most importantly, a framed photo. “She left no instructions on how to navigate life in those circumstances.” [Panel 9] Diana hurts thinking about these times, the times forever preserved by the photo her aunt is laying her eyes on. [Panel 10] The photo reveals a young, closed off Diana, between her distant cousins, held by the shoulder by her aunt. A formal picture, without any complicity, or sense of family. [Panel 11] Daryl snaps out of her unexpected introspection. “I can only strive to do better from now on.” She finishes, readjusting her suit. [Panel 12] Going back on the previous topic, she reaffirms. “So it is my duty to tell you that your affiliation with Akko Kagari will be a powerful one in the future, if you cultivate it.” [Panel 13] “It’s a good thing your relationship is genuine but you’re both still young and soon will part ways when you graduate from Luna Nova. I advise you to pursue the relationship beyond graduation. If not for yourself and this House, then for her sake, as well.” This time, Diana seems more open to this idea, connecting to her aunt’s mindset is easier, despite the usual political agenda behind.
