Nov 10, 1975 9:03pm: Reaching safe harbor at Whitefish Bay after many attempts to contact Fitzgerald, the Anderson reports Fitzgerald missing. The Coast Guard, with no available ships, asks Captain Cooper to go back into the storm and search for her. He agrees and is joined by SS William Clay Ford.

Nov 10, 1975 9:03pm: Reaching safe harbor at Whitefish Bay after many attempts to contact Fitzgerald, the Anderson reports Fitzgerald missing. The Coast Guard, with no available ships, asks Captain Cooper to go back into the storm and search for her. He agrees and is joined by SS William Clay Ford.
November 10, 1975 7:39-54pm: Captain Cooper of the Anderson radios USCG Group at Sault Ste. Marie on channel 16, the distress frequency. The Coast Guard asks him to call back on channel 12 because the storm damaged their antennas and they needed to keep the emergency channel open.
November 10, 1975 7:20pm: Edmund Fitzgerald enters a particularly heavy squall line and disappears from the Arthur M. Anderson's radar. She is never seen or heard from again.

I can save Target Corporate a lot of training headaches. Speaking for all lifelong Upper Midwesterners of Scandinavian descent, we do not want any employees smiling at us, asking us about our day, or approaching us in any way, unless we're having some kind of medical emergency.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.
They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.
If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."
