100%. I now somewhat regularly see parents with kids riding their own bikes here, which would have been unimaginable with the old design.

Of course! And totally get it--happy to explain because I know other people are feeling the same way as these projects go in.

As I mentioned immediately after this post, these spaces on Court will be reinforced with a mix of blocks and bike parking. We’ve also been working to reinforce these spaces across the city while building out in-house concrete capacity.

I understand the frustration as markings go in, but compliance generally greatly improves when projects are complete. We are also planning a mix of bike parking corrals and granite blocks to reinforce these painted pedestrian spaces.

Hi Alexandra, as Philip mentions (also hi Philip!), these will be filled in as painted pedestrian islands and vehicles will be barred from parking here. Having the island extend further on each side of the crosswalk will improve visibility, create more ped space, and improve safety.

And, on the redesigned section of Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, new bike lanes, pedestrian paths, and redesigned slip lanes reduced pedestrian injuries by 45% and total crash injuries by 20%.

On White Plains Road in the Bronx, new protected bike lanes and concrete bus boarding islands delivered a 41% decrease in motor vehicle occupant injuries and a 10% decrease in total injuries. That's because, as we've also seen across the city, bike lanes make streets safer for people in cars.
