Literal gunboat diplomacy in 2025.
Maduro secretly offered the US a large share of Venezuela's 300 bn barrel oil reserves to prevent a military clash, NYT reports.

Trump turned it down. Talks could still be ongoing though, with the aircraft carrier deployment aimed at pressuring Maduro for better terms.

Opta Stan.

Maccabi Tel Aviv have had 2 match postponements in the last 266 days for public disorder.

Aston Villa haven't had 1 in 50,080 days (since 8th September 1888, Football League Matchday 1, the birth of global league football). Home or away.

Gaslit.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s derby against Hapoel cancelled tonight in Israel’s league after riots in & around the stadium, leading to injuries.

Yeah, maybe the safety committee and West Midlands Police got it right?

I still have no idea what Number 10 was thinking intervening over policing. If they ‘win’ the standoff, Keir Starmer personally owns any incident that happens around the match. And he’s broken the precedent of interfering in operational matters, and so will be asked to do so relentlessly.

Of course Starmer is siding with the notoriously violent and proudly Islamaphobic football hooligans over the half a million Muslims residents of our second city who are scared their homes and businesses will be targeted like those in Amsterdam. #avfc

Wrong to stop Maccabi Tel Aviv fans attending Aston Villa match, says PM
Followers of the Israeli club will not be allowed to attend the Europa League game over safety concerns.

Holding mid-price #FPL assets is a lot like playing a slot machine. You're torn, you want to walk away because you're already so far down, but you know the fucker is due to pay out, and the second you leave some prick is going to waltz in and steal your jackpot.

Senesi is literally captianable. He has so many routes to points he returns every week. #FPL

I might actually have to transfer Lacroix to Guehi for my own sanity. Definitely a miscalculation #FPL

Oh Erling, you're such a tease #FPL

At what point do we start considering Jason Anthony as a serious option? It's giving me Mahrez "this can't keep happening" energy #fpl

Seven Dean Smith signings in the starting eleven.
Seven Unai Emery signings on the bench.
There's no argument who the better tactician is but we need to revise our appraisal of the Christian Purslow / Johan Lange era

Have they nerfed Tosins DefCons to 9 or is my #FPL app monging out on me? He was on 4pts a minute ago.

Salah owners can't keep getting away with these 90+X returns. #FPL

Haaland blank. Palmer injury. Welbeck and Bruno both missing penalties. #FPL is so back baby.

I had an entire internal monologue about how Frank's Brentford were particularly good at containing and breaking on Man City and still ended up captaining Haaland #fpl.

Someone should do a study in why these two-way calls always go as badly as it's possible to go. #FPL.
I'm having a wobble on Wirtz. I wasn't going to consider him until a few GWs into the season when we had a better idea of how Liverpool will work, which still feels sensible, but it looks like he's going to be very central to what they do. Considering swapping Saka & Wood, for Wirtz & Watkins. #fpl

Decent start, but Haaland is papering over the cracks somewhat. Tempted to go early on Wirtz to Reijnders to accrue some team value and free up funds to upgrade Welbeck. #FPL

I've had Salah in every #FPL draft to date, but find myself wondering if having Rodri back unlocks 23/24 Haaland?

If you're worrying about what you may or may not be permitted to say or express under these new measures, just remember that supporters of the IDF don't have to worry about this sort of thing at all. They can declare their support for those murdering bastards as clearly and loudly as they like.
The Metropolitan Police has just issued a statement saying it will arrest people for expressing support for Palestine Action at protests this weekend

It says "officers will act" over the new terror offences that came into force at midnight

The BBC article leading with:

"Greta's 'selfie yacht' intercepted with a *small amount* of aid and crew of *activists*"

Is an interesting angle for our impartial national broadcaster to take.
