Charles Coe died today. He was my friend, a great poet, a raconteur, gracious host, didgeridoo-player, and gourmet. I read this morning that he'd died of a heart attack. He's just had prostate cancer surgery a few weeks ago.
Our world is sadder without you in it. May the next one bring you peace.

I seem to have forgotten about BlueSky entirely!

Sorry!

Too many things to think about, and this platform actually seems less secure to me - more public.

The great Jules Feiffer has died. If there were ever a time to revisit his work, it's now.

RIP to the great Jules Feiffer, whom I of course first encountered in the pages of The Phantom Tollbooth before rediscovering him as an editorial cartoonist as an adult.

He may not have loved his work on The Phantom Tollbooth, but the rest of us sure did.

Woke to the sad news we've lost Jules Feiffer just a few days before his 96th birthday. I can think of no better way to honor his passing than by sharing this cartoon from half a century ago which described a different president, who I thought back then was the worst we'd ever see. I was wrong. RIP

The great Jules Feiffer, cartoonist, playwright, social observer, and screenwriter of Carnal Knowledge, has passed away at 95. He died three days before the start of Trump II, with the same impeccable sense of the moment that characterized his work for decades. RIP.

Sorry to hear about David Lynch. I worked beside him (same studio) while he was making BLUE VELVET. He answered my questions about his work with grace and honesty. I especially enjoyed his deeply existential comic strip, The Angriest Dog in the World.”

I'm still a little slow in posting much here.
Happy New Year, all!
May we find community and peace.
May we find good people.
May we make the world a better place every day.
May we not let our fear and dislike of those who fear and dislike us get the better of us.

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

My room is juddering under the weight of books, but there are some I'll probably never read. So, why is it so hard to part with them?
I think I'm fortifying myself against looming ignorance.
I think: What if all other sources of stories, poems, wisdom, and knowledge are cut off?
I'll have my books!

I was surprised yesterday that @laurahelmuth.bsky.social left SciAm, but didn’t know the context til today, and…Either SciAm fired her or fascists bullied her out. Both of these I find upsetting.

Are we not allowed to have feelings about fascists (which they ARE)?
