Yes - that's sort of the point.

Same with my recommendation for the Sticky; from my personal experience people rarely just go with the "this is the best thing you should buy in my professional opinion" so I say start with bottom of the barrel and then try a KSG or PHLster.
Allow me some elaborating:

Think of it like a dating pool - you won't know what's out there until you try.

And if all you do is date people you knew from high school, you won't ever know the possibilities that await you with a little effort.

It's called personal growth; it happens. It's cool.
I also do something frowned upon and tell people to try different holsters before settling back on a good, well-rounded product.

Personally? I like AlienGear for beginner equipment.

(Boo, hiss - shut up. When you also have a Rubbermaid tote full of random holsters come back and criticize.)

It can also be a shit show -- but again, you won't engage with a learning experience if you don't get out there and experience all the things on offer.

And just like your real personal life; just stay away from Uncle Mike - those are 15$ for a reason...

And don't even get me started on off-body carry...

Ladies, there's options - even for folks in yoga pants. Don't just throw that thing in your bag and hope it stays there.

There's a cool company called PHLster... Give em a look.

Or get a Sticky holster and then come back here for that name again.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should" is probably the best way to describe it.

Especially if you are older and are concerned about "draw time" - my brother in Christ they are going to wrestle that gun away from you quicker than you can draw it if they get the jump on you.

Also great for clearing your driveway in the winter months, so it's utilitarian as well.

I can give opinions and some basic information to get folks started, but I know where my professional limits are - and I don't feel endangering folks who are trusting me to give them good information for profit is a good business model; I prefer honesty and ethics in all I do.

Could I do a low-light course?

Honestly, no - I don't have a mastery of that concept to comfortably be able to teach others about it.

Same with red dots; I own one, but I don't actively use it enough to be familiar to a competent level and feel like I can teach others about it.

People are sometimes surprised that a couple dollars at the hardware store can make a big difference right out the gate without even considering the reinforcement plates from Home Depot or thicker hinges.

Reinforced doors themselves are a little more expensive, but very preferable to the standard.

Hardening: Bars on windows (obvious) or reinforced door frames (discreet) and an amalgamation of all of the above.

There are a lot of aspects that can be taken into consideration LONG before actually including *gun* into your plan of action.

That whole "theoretical vs practical" thing I push.

Access Control: Entryways with clear lines of sight around your driveway / leading up to your home, etc.

Image: Basic maintenance and upkeep of your exterior - if it looks like nobody cares about it / lives there, it's a more enticing target.
December 30, 2024 at 4:12 PM
Territory: Outermost part of your property - a symbolic barrier like a "no trespassing" sign or a physical barrier like a fence.

Surveillance: Of course that's something like a Ring camera or a camera above your garage, but also things like maintained shrubbery, flood lights in blind spots, etc.

It's one aspect I like to illustrate when I present during a home consultation (shameless plug) - your home is an onion; many layers to peel away.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) can be applied to the interior of your home, with a little reworking of the principles.

Scare tactics sell classes. Simple as.

The USCCA has taken up the mantle of the NRA in terms of stoking the fear and fervor of suburbanite operators. It's the shitty part of the industry because it gets people focused on all the wrong information and "needs."

I'm not an expert, but I've been studying from some of the big minds when it comes to neuroplasticity and firearm training.

A lot of others are catching onto this program because it's still relatively new to the scene, but it's proven a simple but effective method.

Neurons create pathways the more you do something - do something incorrectly 50 different times and you are going to have a mess of connections that aren't helpful.

But do something the right way 50 times builds a single, consolidated bridge which takes less time for the brain to follow.

I focus heavily on foundation (grip, stance, orientation, NPOA, etc.) because once you have a solid understanding of body mechanics you can then apply that to any "advanced shooting concept" - but also because you are going to default to your highest level of training in a SHTF scenario.

Thing of it is; the vast majority of folks who end up in situations where they need to use their guns have only ever taken a basic permit to carry course and some occasional range time.

He's embodied the concept of "gotta get that bag" and does pretty darn good at it - he got my money occasionally.
December 16, 2024 at 11:00 PM
He also advocates for not practicing malfunction drills...

Which is silly.

There's a LOT to say for the Pincus brand and the way he pushes it in everything he does and what does that mean versus letting the curriculum do the marketing for you ala Gunsite or MAG.
