Allow me some elaborating:

Think of it like a dating pool - you won't know what's out there until you try.

And if all you do is date people you knew from high school, you won't ever know the possibilities that await you with a little effort.

It's called personal growth; it happens. It's cool.
I also do something frowned upon and tell people to try different holsters before settling back on a good, well-rounded product.

Personally? I like AlienGear for beginner equipment.

(Boo, hiss - shut up. When you also have a Rubbermaid tote full of random holsters come back and criticize.)

While "constitutional carry" is all well, good and cool - that doesn't mean that it's the most ideal way to go about carrying.

Sure, half the states say it's fine - but you have to worry about ease of access, reaching for some top-shelf cereal and your shirt coming back down OVER the gun, etc...

I am what is known as a "gateway instructor" - for every one of me, there are a thousand and two instructors where their funnels are the inverse because there are plenty of folks that want to do the flashy, hype beast gun running plop.

I keep my training based on what is most practical and useful.

Simple layout choices can make a huge difference when it comes to a couple extra seconds you might need for your safety.

A simple rearranging of the furniture can be a huge help when it comes to creating a defensive plan for home invasions.

External AND internal aspects should be assessed.

I love making courses, and then subsequently scrapping them to rework them because it just doesn't flow like I want it to.

I'm now on v3 of my Pistols 101 - soon with video. Maybe. I have a GoPro for a reason. My problem is not just space to do crap, but then not liking what I record.

Tis a curse.

Ok, so what's the deal with how I teach? Simple answer is that I take into account how the brain receives, filters, and stores information.

I then take primed information and rotate that into the subsequent information - think of the interleaving training concept.

Pincus...

Where do I start...

So, I've studied his work; if you've done anything USCCA related that entire system is Pincus-Lite.

My gripe with him is he openly hosted a 3D printed gun competition, gave VICE the tools and advice to make their own and then invited every LEO in a tri-state area--

The folks over at ConcealedCarry.com have been a valuable resource for the firearms community - working with Maruster, Bowman and crew has been nothing but a delight.

From what I've gathered, they were one of the first groups to offer online educational courses (prior to COVID-era.)

Remember kids - just because MN says you can smoke a bowl at your leisure doesn't mean the government actually allows it.

Especially when it comes to self-defense.

Not only is weed still a felony controlled substance, but at the bare ass minimum it will be evidence against you in a court of law.

Hey y'all.

It's #December - and that means there's a non-zero chance folks are going to become new gun owners by merit of getting #gifted a new gun.

There's a lot that goes into new gun ownership, so stick with me (BS ate my entire draft during a call, so I have to recreate the whole write-up.)

Get out there and set a baseline, that way you know how much you improve with practice.

Get out there and make some friends in a like-minded community.

Get out there and learn a thing or two about personal safety.

I've seen some of the most swiss-cheese brain headass takes on this current offing of a corporate CEO.

My children in Christ - what you think about "professional hitmen" comes from either movies or Paladin Press - both of which are bad.

As an owner of PP material - I say with confidence.

Hey kids - when you talk about terrorism, do you even have the slightest idea as to what a terrorism is? Do you know what a threat matrix looks like? Do you even know what your *local* threat profile looks like?

Most people who ask about home security don't... And that's fine. But--

I typically *am* the stick in the mud when it comes to "fun" but just don't buy SIG...

One thing I can give Stoeger, outside of being able to outshoot me on his worst day, is tracking all these incidents with SIGs either going off during re-holstering or having some QC troubles like this.

So - guns aren't for everyone.

It's a lifestyle choice that takes responsibility. If you don't have the spoons to juggle the mindset and legal wherewithal that gets squarely set upon you, don't worry about it.

There are other options, but they don't call them the "great equalizer" for nothing.

Let's talk about #microstamping.

There's a bunch of people and gun groups that push it as the best thing since sliced bread.

If you actually read the reports the DoJ did (here's some snips from a 2012 findings report) there's actually like one hundred and two variables that go into it working...

Long time, no post -

Too many of these to keep track of...

Anyways; being online I see a lot of very worried individuals looking at many different outlets for information or advice.

Before you do anything permanent, know that it's perfectly acceptable to be scared.

The thing about training is that it's not just a one and done thing - it's an ever evolving world dependent on equipment and best practices.

Not only does the method change, but the materials also have to grow to accommodate. Doubly so in a world when folks don't have much "leisure" time.
August 28, 2023 at 2:57 PM
So what's different between the way I do things, and the way everyone else structures their training is that I understand 90% of folks first jump into firearms is going to be a Permit class.

This sets a lot of folks up for failure simply because that should be an "advanced" course
August 23, 2023 at 3:33 PM
If you get the chance, take a #StopTheBleed course.

Most folks think anytime we talk about medical stuff - it's in relation to gunshot wounds and the like. But you can still have your kids fall off a jungle gym and get some pretty serious injuries.

They are usually free, and could save a life.

The cool thing about the #MantisX training system is that it comes with 8.5x11 targets that are roughly 1/3 the size of the standard, so you can easily work yards into feet.

It also comes with smaller targets ~1/5th the standard size so you can easily hit 20 yards of dry fire from the couch.

First thing everyone should know is that YouTube is not always the best place to find information regarding do's and dont's with firearms.

It's mostly an entertainment platform, and everyone on there is enamoured with the algorithm machine giving them clicks, which eventually becomes revenue.

In my quest for knowledge I have stuck my foot in a lot of doors and met a lot of cool cats.

There are always outliers in every group that are a little fringe, but by and large the vast majority of folks are just like you and me; looking for good information to live their lives in peace.

In the Post-9/11 / GWOT era, I have spent an excessive amount of time also learning about violent extremism and the what and whys behind it.

Contrary to some beliefs, understanding things like this play heavily into one's own ability to preserve your safety and expand your situational awareness.

I was a Federal Firearms Dealer for 3 years, but it was too much of a pain in the butt and the amount of stress it added to my workload versus the income it wasn't pulling in I decided it was one too many eggs in my basket.

Now I focus primarily on education and equipment testing.
