The C-value paradox:

The Japanese canopy plant (Paris japonica) has a genome 50 TIMES LARGER than a human (150 billion base pairs to our 3.3 billion base pairs).

If all DNA is functional, why does a plant in Japan's alpine region need 50 times more of it than you?

The giraffe weevil (Trachelophorus giraffa) is native to the forests of Madagascar.

They show a strong sexual dimorphism: males (left) have elongated necks compared to females (right). This long neck is used in mating displays and challenging other males.

In 1960, David Latimer planted a garden inside of a bottle and sealed it shut. He opened the bottle and watered the plant in 1972 and sealed it for good. It has been a self sustaining ecosystem for 60 years.
