See you all on Morning Joe at 9 am ET.
Or not. Either way, you don't need to check in.

Principles that don’t matter anymore.

Majority voted for someone completely void of principles.

We lost by less than 1%.

This is no time to convert to Nihilism; it's time to fight.

Would be nice to start that fight without giving gifts to the enemy that are political and electoral losses for us..

Thanks Joe.

No. When it comes to constitutionalism and the rule of law, what you do matters, no matter what your opponent does. Otherwise, you're just surrendering to the law of the jungle.
playing by the rules only matter if both sides agree to play by them.

Those of you who think that I don't appreciate a father's love for a son...well, I wrote this four years ago (at the urging of @jilldlawrence.bsky.social

But Joe was still wrong to pardon him and he has done damage to the rule of law.

Real men embrace their sons and fathers, just like Joe and Hunter Biden in that photo
A father holding and kissing his adult son after standing by him during many struggles is somehow inappropriate? That's a child's view of masculinity.

The election was a referendum on the rule of law. Apparently voters don’t care.

Me: Because Democrats can't run to restore the rule of law and object to family pardons if they are breaking promises not to do what Biden just did.
You: Yeah, but besides that
If anyone has seen Nichols explain why he thinks this is a bad idea I would love to hear it.

Yes, I do, especially because moments like this are a reminder, to use Rick Wilson's expression that Democrats are holistically bad at politics.
If you campaign on honesty and integrity and the rule of law, you can't renege on a promise not to pardon your son. It's that simple.
Your attitude is why the Democrats lose. Republicans play dirty and you expect Democrats to do everything perfectly.

"The rule of law is over." Okay, opposing Trump is pointless now. What's on TV?
The SC rulings have made 45/47 above the law, and Congress won’t impeach him so technically the rule of law is over and your thinking is outdated

"When was the last time Trump paid political costs?"

In four courts after 2021

And he won because of roughly 275,000 votes in four states. But sure, keep on believing he's Superman.
When was the last time Trump paid political costs for his personal actions?

This "norms" fantasy is just a way to tie Democrats hands while ketting Republicans do whatever they want.

It's ling past time Democrats stopped the media's farce.

Trump agrees, and loves hearing it.
For Biden to continue to play by the rules of the game while his opponents break every rule of that game, with zero consequences, is fucking chapter 1 in “How To Keep Losing Until We Have Nothing Left.”

Again, fuck the norms. We aren't in normal times anymore. Lets quit pretending that we are.

I'm sorry, but this is insane.
The hell with what they say. Knock the wind out of Trumps revenge tour. Now he needs to issue preemptive blanket pardons for all investigators and prosecutors and judges who were involved in the legitimate prosecutions of Trump.

Every time one of you says "the old rules are gone and the law doesn't matter and it's all not coming back," Trump and Patel and other assorted goons nod and smile and agree with you, and they congratulate you on finally coming around to their side.
Unfortunately, this is old thinking. Agreeable no doubt. But, this is thinking congruent for a rule of law age that has now passed. Doesn't work in the law of rule age about to unfold.
Joe Biden pardoning Hunter in a sweeping 10-year pardon is a terrible, stupid move. It's everything Trump could hope for - and it's unwarranted.

If you're trying to stiffen the spines and shore up the resolve of people trying to defend the rule of law for the next four years, Biden just shanked them and took away an important issue that they could have used against Trump.
Stop thinking of Trump as invincible and unstoppable.
I don't give a shit anymore.

For MAGA, Biden's pardons will always be corrupt and bad, and Trump's pardons are something they have not paid attention to and have no opinion of.

I objected to all those pardons. I spoke out continually about Trump's abuse of the pardon power.
And then Biden does this. You've just proven that you don't care about the principle involved - you just like it if *your* guy does it. Which is exactly how Trumpers think, too.
“A terrible stupid move”. Hmm. Compared to pardoning Manafort, Stone and Kushner, sounds fair and reasonable to me.

Biden promised not to pardon Hunter. He said he respected the jury's verdict. Now he says: Fuck it, pardoned.
Trump faced opposition on some of his proposed pardons. Biden has now erased pardons as any kind of issue for the next four years. I know it made you all *feel good*, but it's stupid.
Oh, please. Like Trump was waiting to see what Biden would do before he decided to hand out pardons right and left?\

Nah.

This is exactly the argument he'll use when he lets the J6 people out, and pardoning Hunter just reduced the political cost of that - and yes, there would have been some - significantly.
There's no reason for Hunter Biden to sit in prison to preserve a system of justice that no longer exists
