We're heading into a long weekend, absolutely the perfect time for a "wait, what?" Reference in a book that I will now fixate on for five days until I can deal with it on Tuesday.

Somebody should buy me stuff to, ahem, inspire my writing.
Somebody is me.
It's a beautiful day. We just dropped new merch for the first time in a year.

How do you know it's time to wrap up a research project?
When you're like... It's time for some serious background

I love my second book already, but it truly is a difficult birth compared to my first book.
I called my master's thesis my "alien baby" because it eventually burst forth from me. Whatever this second book is, is far more terrifying.

The second meeting this semester of the @towsonu.bsky.social #digitalhumanities Special Interest Group did not disappoint. We had four students talk about their #DH projects to faculty. They knocked it out of the park in their presentations as they did with their original research!

😡🤬🤬 Baltimore light rail sends my blood pressure through the roof. Schedule? Work of fiction. "Real time"? Also a work of fiction @mta.maryland.gov why can't we have nice things?

Today in teaching DH: controller batteries suddenly died while students were in Anne Frank's VR house. Certainly an extra historical dimension when they're digitally trapped in that space 😬

Animal history people, what is a "watch hen"? OED isn't giving me anything. I'm getting it in the context of paying rent or heriot so it's obviously some type of poultry!

On the struggle bus today but seeing that the only pre-1700 reference to chickens in the @virtualtreasury.bsky.social is in the context of a list of mutant animals received by the Dublin Philosophical Society in the late 17th century giving me the giggles

My cats are *thrilled* I'm not at the Folger today and instead working at home. So if you're joining the MAA DH webinar today you are bound to see at least one of them. I apologize in advance for zoom cat arse.

Y'all I lost the run of myself in trivia with the halftime round "put the invention of these premodern technologies in order." My ocean history class, my book chapter, all finally paying dividends. Until the answer code was wrong. Yes, I come with citations. No, I have no shame.

Doing my research often makes me hungry. Glad to spend today totting up chickens at monasteries and taking a break from all the salmon (I'm a pescatarian).

Big thanks to @dinostalgia.bsky.social @dollyjorgensen.bsky.social and @drhick.bsky.social for the article recs for digital animals. Not only did we have an excellent week of discussion, they inspired the students in developing their own DH animal projects!

In which I beg archaeologists to sign up for the fall semester of Skype a Scientist, because we're getting buried in requests for your area of expertise.

Sign up here:
docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
I run @skypeascientist.bsky.social which matches scientists w/classrooms, libraries, etc for Q&As.

We match First Lego League teams too. This tends to wipe out one category of scientist bc so many teams sign up for the same category (this year, archaeologists). We're almost out of archaeologists.
