Time for politicians to recognise that the chemicals industry needs to not only decarbonise (and properly, not with fake climate solutions such as hydrogen and CCS) but also to detoxify - to really stop producing harmful substances.

Check out EEB's important work in critiquing chemicals industry's lobbying and how they risk weakening existing protections, let alone strengthening rules aimed at tackling harmful chemicals.

Interesting study.
We found poor levels of transparency among many PermReps when we investigated lobbying on #PFAS #ForeverChemicals in our #ChemicalReaction report.

The #PFAS restriction mustn’t be hijacked by industry.

But to deliver a comprehensive ban, we will need a new approach to PFAS decision-making. The Commission needs to stop the #ForeverLobbying & deliver a #ToxicFreeFuture.

The #PFAS pollution tap needs turning off.

As the #ForeverLobbying Project shows, the costs of #ForeverPollution environmental clean-up could run into the trillions, even if the technology existed (which it doesn’t).

Our survey of 15 Commission DGs on #PFAS lobbying showed it is:

⚠️ Relying on inadequate transparency tools
⚠️ Not monitoring even for ‘balance’ in meetings
⚠️ Unaware of risks of corporate lobbying
⚠️ No rules in place to specifically protect PFAS file
