It sometimes surprises me to learn that there are people who don't know that one of the first really big datasets used to train and evaluate computer language and social models was (and still is) a bunch of internal emails from Enron.

Yes, that Enron. Collected as part of the investigation into […]

I prefer old (as in: 60ies and 70ies)book prints: this paper, small writing, hardly any margins.

Because wtf, of the modern fantasy books, you struggle to fit in 20 on an Ikea-Ivar shelf. Not to mention that the height of the shelfs needs to be more than 6 holes.

How am I supposed to keep my […]

I cannot believe how much misinformation there is about comet 3I/ATLAS. It's just very cool on its own without having to be an alien spaceship conspiracy...

Prof. Jason Wright wrote a great breakdown of all the ways Avi Loeb is wrong about his awful alien conspiracy theories, and why 3I/ATLAS […]

Ah, ICE rides (even the second class ones!). Overhearing a business man discussing offers for different office configuration (do we need 8 or 10 workplaces? Get offers for both!) and a start up-looking guy discussing whether it will cost 1.5 or 2 millions. Whatever "it" is. And me, having a […]

Living as a human in this here 21st century is in fact immensely complicated and relentlessly exhausting and most of us want fewer choices, not more. We want to *delegate*, abstract away, and never have to think about it.

Most people only want more choice if (a) it is their area of niche […]

I love how delightfully diabolical evolution can be.

A new article in Annual Review of Entomology is about the plant pathogens that are vectored between plants by herbivorous insects. These plant pathogens invade plant tissues and make plants sick. To get between plants they hitch a ride inside […]
