"This is.
And thou art.
There is no safety.
There is no end.
The word must be heard in silence. There must be darkness to see the stars. The dance is always danced above the hollow place, above the terrible abyss."

The 2015 Paris climate agreement aimed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The UN has stated that it's impossible to make that goal at this point. As such, attendees at this year's conference will be looking at a new goal & for new ways to reach it.

My favorite Douglas Adam's quote:

Escapism at its best.
I'm knitting in bed, watching Tales from the Green Valley with the sparrow on my shoulder and the rabbit by my side. Learning vital life skills from the 1620s may come in handy in the near future, all things considered.

Book 2 of the Khumalo trilogy is in pre-launch on Kickstarter!
If you haven't read Book 1 yet (Breath, Warmth & Dream), I HIGHLY recommend doing so now.
It's one of the most beautiful fantasy novels I've ever read, and the opportunity to spend more time with Khumalo and Amnandi makes me so. happy.
Starting now, I'm in full Kickstarter mode. This means every Wednesday till launch, a snippet. AMNANDI SAILS, book 2 of the Khumalo trilogy. Then a tiny url that'll lead you to the ship. Unobtrusive as hell.

Will it be a bon voyage? Oh hell yeah.

The Cage

It's sunny outside.
It's just a sun
but men look at it
and then they sing.

I don't know about the sun.
I know of the angel's melody
and the hot sermon
of the last wind
I know how to scream until dawn
when death poses naked
in my shadow.

My sweet boy is almost seven months old, and growing bigger by the day (or so it seems). Don't let the sweet, big eyes fool you: he's had more than enough treats for the day. ;)

I love seeing all these photos of snowdrops, magnolias, and other springtime blooms that my friends in warmer climates are sharing.
We still have over 30cm of snow outside, and our last frost date here is June 10th, so I won't be seeing flowers in my own yard any time soon.

Ah, sadness.

I'm casting on a lace shawl with 100-year-old silk yarn, courtesy of a dear friend who found several skeins of it tucked inside a hidden cupboard in her family's mansion.

^ True story.

Decades of pesticide use has led to intense pollinator colony collapse in bee and butterfly populations.
No pollinators = no food.

My new Substack is essentially going to be a compilation of my 30+ years of gardening and herbalism experience to help people learn how to grow their own food and medicine.

The newest piece is on how to grow a massive amount of potatoes in a small space:

I'm casting on these beautiful mittens as I wait for the yarn for my next shawl project to arrive.
When I knit socks or mitts, I find that knitting both at the same time (on two sets of DPNs) is the most effective approach. These won't be finished before winter's end, but I don't care. Hah.

Hey guys I know it's really hard to be conscious of your health right now, so please remember that after every hour muttering “wtf” to yourself while scrolling on your phone you should stand up and banshee scream for at least 5 minutes to stretch out your lower back

When he says to you: "Why don't you go on a yarn-buying binge? Spend as much as you want, and get yourself some new books while you're at it."

Gentle reader, he is also gorgeous and can bench-press me.
