I think the awareness of fad diets is extra important when it impacts kids. As they are still developing, giving them a fad diet, rather than a healthy a balanced and nutritious diet can impact their development physically and cognitively. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This is a great article as it's from a reputable source: Mayo Clinic. It also has simple tables with how much protein, vegetables, etc, different age ranges should eat. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This connects with Tom's mindset. Not just making large changes instantly and perfectly, but trying to improve yourself bit by bit with simple, manageable tasks. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
November’s a good time to check in with yourself. Progress isn’t about doing everything right—it’s about noticing what helps you feel your best and doing more of that. #RealWorldNutrition

Tom's salad strategy was interesting. 2 things that stood out was importance of consistency and always trying his best to have the salad for lunch. Another thing was the support from family, friends, and the workers, which motivated and made it easier for him to do it. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This tweet really connects to what were learning in class. Obesity and hunger aren't just about the food, it's the whole socioeconomic portion that influence them, and require large solutions to that for hunger and obesity to end. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Hunger isn’t only about food. It’s tied to income, housing, education, and access to grocery stores. Real nutrition solutions start by understanding those bigger systems. #RealWorldNutrition

A fact I learned was that more than 1/3 of adults in the US are obese. As a future healthcare worker, this is important because obesity has lasting impacts on people's health, regardless of the field of medicine. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

When I go out to eat, I usually eat greasy foods since they are cheaper and quicker to get in Boston, especially at fast food places. There are definitely places that aren't as unhealthy in Boston, and I'll try to find these places. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Greasy foods are tasty but can cause bloating, weight gain, and increased health risks if eaten excessively. Fried foods slow digestion, strain your gut, and impair brain function. Opt for grilled, baked, or air-fried instead. #NationalGreasyFoodsDay www.healthline.com/nutrition/gr...

I chose the "lack of time to plan, shop, prepare, and cook healthy foods". I face this problem in college, where I'm either too lazy or too tired to shop for groceries and prepare and cook food, especially when I need to do it in the morning. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I didn't know that there were 8 different types of vitamin Bs. But from reading about it, it doesn't seem super hard to get all of them as many foods have multiple of the vitamin Bs in them @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I used to have Flintstones multi-vitamin gummies as a kid. I'd say that they were to improve my health, but it was really just because I liked the taste of the gummies. It's interesting to see now that they really weren't doing anything for my health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh.353

A lot of fad diets treat fats as something super harmful and should be avoided, when it's only specific fats that are actually bad for you and certain types like unsaturated fats are really beneficial for your health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

The macrobiotic diet seems well-intentioned, as it promotes whole grains, beans, and vegetables. But limiting meat and dairy can lead to nutritional deficiencies, like protein or calcium if alternative sources for them aren't found. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I mentioned adding fruits to breakfast to get more nutrients. Especially in the morning, when I'm tired and groggy, simply grabbing some fruit from the fridge like blackberries is a great way to get protein intake for the day. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Usually, I eat a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast. I can get whole-grain bagels for more fiber. I can also cook an egg to get more protein or grab some fruits for some more nutrients. A glass of milk for the additional calcium, especially if it's low-fat, helps too. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

We discussed for this week, keeping track of our food for 1 day and reflecting on it. A longer process of it, like a food diary, can help show problems with a current diet and what can be fixed to be healthier. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I think I was accurate except for how much cream cheese I put exactly. The only hard part is tracking portions of smaller sides since the serving size is usually different from what you actually eat. I wasn't really surprised since I wasn't aware of this. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

In regards to macro and micro nutrients, peanuts provide vitamin B1 and protein and can be a convenient way to get those nutrients, especially if your vegetarian and want a source of protein. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Peanuts pack a punch: they’re rich in manganese, niacin, folate, vitamin B1, and protein. Fun fact: it takes about 540 peanuts to make a 12-oz jar of peanut butter! #NationalPeanutDay #Peanuts anextraordinary-day.blogspot.com/2016/09/sept...

A fact I learned was that different vitamins can be dangerous without moderation. Too little of fat-soluble vitamins can lead to rickets and night blindness. However, because they are not easily excreted, excessive amounts can be toxic to the body. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This idea connects with what we're studying about regarding fake info. Often times there's articles about like "losing weight in like 24 hrs", this isn't sustainable and it should be taking care of your health one step at a time and building healthy habits.
Health isn’t about reinventing everything at once. It’s about adding one better choice at a time. More movement, more fiber, more sleep. Less stress about doing it “perfectly.” Small actions, repeated, are what really stick. #RealWorldNutrition

The idea that results don't apply to everyone equally. When examining nutrition studies, the specificity of the data and its connection to the target audience. I need to pay attention to things like age, race, gender, etc, as that impacts the nutritional advice/findings. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I'm Venkata and I'm a pre-med major. Nutrition was the most interesting BEH elective I saw. A question I had was, what's the best way to maintain a healthy diet as a college student? Healthy eating = balance. I love noodles of any kind, not one in particular @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
