Here's an interesting tidbit from the "people prefer AI poetry" paper data: people who report "hating" or "disliking" poetry overall have a much stronger relative preference for AI poetry. People who "hate" poetry found over 60% of the human poems to be bad quality, and only 30% of the AI poems.

this makes sense people don’t read or write poetry like they once did, we don’t have the same kind of cultural literacy—whether as a result of formal ed or participation in organic counter culture communities & traditional cultural institutions. it has never been a given!!!
Most depressing scientific report ever?

People read human and AI poetry:
• Of the 5 poems rated most likely to be human, 4 were actually AI
• AI was rated more beautiful, inspiring, meaningful + profound
• “people prefer AI-generated poetry to human-authored poetry”

So by domesticating dairy cattle and goats, humans effectively outsourced lactation and maternal care to other species, right? You never have to be weaned, you drink cow's milk your entire life. Patriarchs found a way to circumvent women's control over milk and children. Dairy patriarchy.

I think that this piece by Ray Naylor on "AI" gets it exactly right, the culture industry's tendency towards repetition is the precondition of the technology of algorithmic reproduction.
