There is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Abolish ICE.

I have a headache.
I got my butt whooped pretty hard at Pre-Release this afternoon, but I scored a pretty sweet pull and had a lot of fun! #mtg #FinalFantasy

Some cute little jerk ate my spinach plant over the weekend 😠 #gardening

Upon opening the tin I was struck by how different it looked compared to the creamy-looking liquid in the tin of smoked mussels I had last week. These are packed in olive oil and broth along with onion, garlic, and herbs.

I'm back to work and having lunch when lots of folks are having dinner: these are the Lemon Herb variety of mussels from Patagonia Provisions.
May 27, 2025 at 10:01 PM
My first take upon opening was: wow, that's a lot of mussels! The olive oil seems to have mixed with the briny broth to create a creamy appearance inside the tin.

Happy Friday!

I switched up my lunch a little bit again. Today I'm having smoked mussels packed in extra-virgin olive oil from Patagonia Provisions. (Yes, the same Patagonia that makes coats and outer wear!)

Reminds me of the Mark Ruffalo Buffalo

Maybe it's because of when these fish were harvested, but I've been finding Sardine roe in my fish! These little satchets of fish eggs are considered a delicacy, but for me personally I don't care for their texture.

It's been a minute since I posted my lunch: for those of you new here I try tinned fish and try to write my reactions while they're fresh. Pictured here is a tin of Alshark lightly smoked sardines from Morocco, though today I ate a tin packed in spicy oil. The tins look nearly the same.

Thank you @socialistdogmom.bsky.social for telling listeners like me about the "little treat" philosophy, and reminding us that it doesn't need to be sweet. I put a bird feeder out in the backyard over the weekend, and seeing my cats entertained while I sip my coffee has been a real treat indeed!

A week ago they ate my pea shoots too! They were more than twice as tall as these stumpy stems and had just started to flower.

Iwas for a very brief period a licensed pest control technician. I studied very hard and drove through a blizzard to the Minnesota Dept. Of Agriculture to take my exam, which I easily passed.

Nowhere in that training did they show me how to deal with house cats eating my vegetable seedlings.

#Caturday Saturday! Here's the household orange menace, Simon. He knocked over potted plants and then rolled around in the dirt mess he made, so he got his first bath on Easter Sunday.

I'm tired, I'm cranky, I'm hungry and lazy.

Today we're having salmon for lunch: from Bumblebee Seafoods this is smoke flavored coho salmon packed in soybean oil. A product of Thailand, I think I paid around $4 for this can.

Allergy sufferers please be advised, the seasoning for this flavor has a lot of peanuts. It doesn't taste like them though, I mostly get cumin, red chili, and schezuan peppercorn. It's indeed crunchy, but not too dry thanks to the olive oil from the fish tin.
April 24, 2025 at 8:55 PM
For $4USD this snack kit includes a tin of Tuna, a packet of seasoning spices, and a teensy wooden spork to stir it altogether in the provided cup. All of the packaging is recyclable and/or home compostable, which is very appealing for me (a person who thinks a lot about sustainability).

I'm having lunch a little early today, and I'm changing it up again because I spotted something intriguing at my local Wal-Mart: Scout Seafood Snacks yellowfin Tuna with "chili crisp crunchy topper". The company is based in Vancouver and the product is made in Mexico.

Mackerel has a mild but meaty flavor, with a texture that can be applied very well to recipes that are normally meant for canned tuna.

Without skin I don't have to worry about scales, but the fish seems ironicallt dry without despite being packed in oil. Still tasty, but I wouldn't buy again. 6/10

Another week day, another 4pm tinned fish lunch.

Today I'm changing things up and having Mackerel instead of Sardines. This offering is from La Narval, a brand based in Spain.

Another day on second shift, another 4pm lunch break. Today we're trying spiced sardines from Flower, a brand based in Morocco.
April 22, 2025 at 9:36 PM
It's Monday which means my lunch is at 5pm-ish on account of working second shift. I'm also broke-ish and lazy so here's another tinned fish lunch review coming your way!

Today's tin is another offering from our friends at Sardinha of Portugal: Lightly Smoked Sardines packed in olive oil.
April 21, 2025 at 11:09 PM
I recently purchased tins of fish from Sardinha of Portugal, and this tin of "Sardines in Olive Oil with Curry" is among the flavors that I will likely not be re-purchasing.

While the fish was delicious served over rice, it lacks the curry flavor it advertises! A hint of Cumin, that's it. 4/10.
April 9, 2025 at 10:18 PM
Alright, I understand the hype about Nuri spiced sardines in olive oil.

The spices add a lively flair to a meaty fish that doesn't at all taste "fishy" in an unpleasant way. Ranging from $4.99-6.99/can depending on the retailer, this is a step up from King Oscar in a big way. 9/10

Alright, I did my duty. show me those cats, podcast man!
April 1, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Today I'm having #sardines for breakfast. A new frontier!

Sardinha of Portugal offers "small" sardines in olive oil - about 15 itty bitty guys inside a tin that normally holds less than half of the bigger ones. These had great flavor and paired well with pickled red onion on avocado toast. 8/10
