My dad served in the military for 23 years. Served during wars and was deployed, often. After he retired he lost his entire sense of self. It was during the recession & he couldn’t get a job bc he was disabled from war. We were so broke we could barely afford food. Fuck you, to the US military. ❤️

Under Gov. Landry’s tough-on-crime agenda, Louisiana has eliminated parole for nearly everyone imprisoned for crimes committed after Aug. 1, 2024.

For most prisoners already behind bars, an algorithm is now deciding if they have a shot at early release.

(Published April with @veritenews.org)
An Algorithm Deemed This Nearly Blind 70-Year-Old Prisoner a “Moderate Risk.” Now He’s No Longer Eligible for Parole.
A Louisiana law cedes much of the power of the parole board to an algorithm that bars thousands of prisoners from a shot at early release. Civil rights attorneys say it could disproportionately harm B...

So WTF just happened with health care and the shutdown?

Hi it's me, Chris Vazquez! I'll be tracking the shutdown as it unfolds, while also filling you in on just how much people are likely to pay if nothing changes and the Obamacare tax credits expire. Stay tuned.

I remember that book well. This was the belief until Dr. Leonard Jason published his community based studies in the late 1990s and proved what we advocates had been saying for years - Black people are at least a susceptible to this disease as the general population. This has been a long hard fight.

I bought this book for $4 for research. Imagine, as a Black person, specifically a Black woman, seeing this. It's not that old, it's from 1990. Imagine not only seeing this but hearing it said by the CDC.

To not see this travesty spoken about more in IACC spaces is... well there are no words.

Make the Goddamn meal and put it in your Free Fridge. Write the $100 check to the food bank. Ask your local school what they need for the kids and then go about trying to get that stuff.... Do these things regularly and you are making meaningful contributions to your communities.
