I have learned how essential nutrition is to various aspects of a patients health. I also learned how personalized care needs to be provided to patients in terms of nutritional needs. Also, preventative care is very important and is a practice that I will incorporate. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to repost this because this week is Thanksgiving week. Many people may forget or overlook the importance of making sure the various foods they are consuming are safe to eat, and this post provides guidelines on how to do that.

The food I am most looking forward to eating on Thanksgiving is mashed potatoes. Instead of making the same recipe every year, I try a different one each year. I also usually make gravy to go with the mashed potatoes, and try new recipes for that too. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to repost this because it has similar qualities to the articles we are selecting this week. Like the article I chose, this post is very easy to read and gives the reader a clear understanding of the steps and actions one can take in order to achieve their desired goal.

I chose this article because it provides factual evidence to support healthy eating in children and it comes from a reputable source. It also has an easy to read, good break down of what nutritional guidelines children should meet based on their gender and age. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to repost this because it relates to this weeks discussion of how treatment by others can impact one's health. Especially in the context of weight, people are often discouraged by comments by those around them and this can negatively impact both mental and physical health.
most people don’t have a problem with their weight, they have a problem with the horrible ways they get treated by others because of their weight.

instead of trying to “fix” an individual’s weight, what if we tried to fix some of the rampant anti-fat bias out in the world?

I didn't know the impact that attitude of healthcare workers had on patients. Tom was afraid of being judged and had very serious health problems that he didn't receive treatment for.Having a positive and caring attitude is something I will consider working in healthcare. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I reposted this because it relates to this weeks discussion relating obesity. Relating to my post, diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in obese adults. This post provides information about how the risk of diabetes is increased, not just with obese patients.
November 3, 2025 at 5:06 PM
I learned that obesity can reduce life expectance by 6-20 years depending on age and race. It raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and respiratory diseases. As a professional, I will be able to further educate patients on the risks associated with obesity. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I reposted this because it relates to the barrier I chose, preferred taste for unhealthy food. Unhealthy foods may seem more appealing, but they often have negative impacts. This post does a good job of emphasizing the short and long term impact of greasy foods as well as providing alternatives.
Greasy foods are tasty but can cause bloating, weight gain, and increased health risks if eaten excessively. Fried foods slow digestion, strain your gut, and impair brain function. Opt for grilled, baked, or air-fried instead. #NationalGreasyFoodsDay www.healthline.com/nutrition/gr...

One barrier I have is lack of self-regulation behaviors and preferred taste for unhealthy food. Living in Boston, there are lots of new food and drink spots that I will try. This is a barrier because I eat healthy regularly, but often "cheat" with these foods and drinks. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I choose to repost this because healthy eating has an important relationship to supplements and vitamins. Many people often chose to take supplements and vitamins as a substitute for eating healthy. This is not always beneficial or the best choice to make.
October 20, 2025 at 3:43 PM
An article from the University of Michigan found that many supplements are often mislabeled. When tested, almost 50% difference in the labeled ingredients and the actual contents of these supplements. They attributed this to lack of regulation of supplements. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I reposted this because it's similar to the article I discussed this week. The article I found compares omega-3 in oily vs non oily fish. This one compares the omega-3 in wild-caught vs farm-raised fish. It says that wild-caught fish have more omega-3 but both options are still nutrient dense.
October 14, 2025 at 11:18 PM
An article from National Health Service recommended eating fish at least twice a week, and oily fish for at least one of these meals. Examples of this include salmon, trout, sardines, etc. Oily fish are high in omega-3 fats which can help prevent heart disease. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to repost this because of my post this week about paleo diets. Looking at this recipe specifically, I am able to see the various aspects of this meal that both meet and do not meet the requirements of a paleo diet. This recipe shows that a fad diet is not necessarily the only healthy option.
Noodles are a food made from doughs containing such foods as rice, wheat, potato, buckwheat, maize, legumes, and nuts. Recipe: Vegetarian Pad Thai #NationalNoodleDay dietitians-online.blogspot.com/2014/10/octo...

The fad diet that I picked is the paleo diet. This diet mimics what humans ate during the Paleolithic era. It includes fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds. The diet exists based on the idea that our genes have not adapted to more modern diets. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to repost this because choices like the type of oil you use in your meal can also effect the nutrient density. In this article, the focus is on seed oils compared to other oils. It is pointed out that each type of oil has its own benefits and also vary in their nutrient density.
September 30, 2025 at 3:32 PM
One meal that I often make is tacos. I can make this healthier and more nutrient dense by swapping out flour tortillas with corn tortillas. I also chose lean turkey as a healthier protein choice. In addition I add other vegetables such as avocados, tomatoes, and lettuce. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I reposted this because choices like these can affect your health as well as can directly affect your 24 hour intake. The choices you make in terms of dealing will hunger can affect the results of ones intake, and later give an individual something to reflect on in terms of a change in their diet.
September 23, 2025 at 4:34 PM
The results from tracking my intake were mostly accurate. There were some aspects such as toppings or condiments that made tracking more difficult and may have resulted in a lower accuracy. Nothing in my diet surprised me as I already have a good idea of what I eat daily. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I reposted this because it was relevant to the topics we covered this week, including the difference between whole grains and refined grains. Whole grains provide health benefits since they contain the bran and germ along with the endosperm, so it is important to know the kinds of whole grains.

A fun fact about proteins is that they break down into 21 different amino acids. These amino acids are also further divided into essential, conditionally non-essential, and non-essential. 9 of these amino acids are essential, and are necessary for our health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to repost this because I feel it is important to acknowledge that health related to nutrition is affected by more than what we consume. This post emphasizes that an often over looked factor, sleep, can also have an extremely significant impact on health.
Sleep is often overlooked in health, but it affects energy, appetite, and even blood sugar regulation. Adults need 7–9 hours per night. Consistent sleep schedules, limiting late caffeine, and reducing screen time before bed make a big difference. #RealWorldNutrition

When reading nutrition resources, I will be looking closely at sample size. This can be extremely misleading, especially with smaller sample sizes. Results from these studies can be statistically significant but may not be relevant or applicable to a larger population. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
