Both Martin and Straczynski knew each other from the 1985 Twilight Zone too. (Per JMS’s memoir not amicably, per him Martin apparently saw any writer about his age pitching the show as a rival for his staff job - which JMS would get once the show’s budget was cut for a direct to syndication season.)

Yeah, exactly. You take any of the like canonically Great TV shows their cinematography is very often very good. But they are also the top form of the medium.

So I’d say Miami Vice kicks the ass of most shows today, and it does, but one of its best episodes has a scene where Crockett and Tubbs walk to a bar and you can hear them talking while their lips clearly do not move - because on a lower quality image you would have never picked that up.

TV’s cinematography evolved with the increase of power in screens - to widescreen and HD in the 00s and beyond. You can find a lot of great cinematography in older shows (say the Twilight Zone) but they all assume a smaller, fuzzier screen.
