I'm a student, new work premiering in 5 days! It's my first time making a graphic score and I've had sooo much fun workshopping it with the ensemble :) here's a part of the score!

a recently finished engraving of Messiaen's La Colombe from his Preludes for piano. this is using the system and page breaks from the original edition.

Throughout the timpani do this a lot, especially on held chords. The third example here is particularly cool because it shows the way the percussion instrument doing the filling in is selected to match the timbre that they're blending with

Look at these moment where the subdivision is eighth notes. The bassoon plays the melody, and the strings fill in the gaps, so there's essentially straight eighths (rhythmically speaking. Also the snare drum fills in the gaps of the bass melody, which is spooky given the contrast in articulation

there's three hardnesses, but all of them are multitonal so overall there's a HUGE range of articulation, many possibilities. this is going to be so fun to explore in solo and concerto repertoire

recently got these marimba mallets, I didn't have any before and I am SO HAPPY they sound amazing and have such a wide tonal pallette (also the heads have such a unique texture? such a cool kind of yarn)

I couldn't find Rautavaara's Incantations to buy so I spent a few hours engraving my own copy of the solo part and now I just have to write a cadenza #staywinning
