bemoaning the lack of generic hardware stores that stock almost everything in my area.,., need some cord and screws and various bits and bobs to fix my instruments!!!
is this a kind of store that has been disappearing in the UK, or am I just in a hardware desert?

performed Rachmaninoff Symphony 2 yesterday and it... I feel very gray about that piece. it has incredible moments, but it just doesn't click as a whole? not too sure why it doesn't do it for me.
generally though it's overscored, especially the clarinet solo in the third movement. it's too soupy!

a recently finished engraving of Messiaen's La Colombe from his Preludes for piano. this is using the system and page breaks from the original edition.

listening to Qigang Chen's Enchantements Oubliés while the sun sets and it's windy and the sky has dark grey clouds pierced and dappled with golden sunlight is the actual best feeling imaginable <3

got the new Boosey & Hawkes edition of Shostakovich 15 so have been studying it again. I noticed that in a lot of places Shostakovich orchestrates in a “filling in” way. There's an underlying subdivision of the pulse, one part plays a melody, and the accompaniment fills in the gaps
