I fear the dislike for Trump is being weaponized by the Iranian regime.

Much discourse in English tends to be colored by other issues, chief among them interventionist ideas proposed by the US.

Do not allow this to fail us supporting a people that had been fighting oppression for decades.

In classic fashion the Iranian regime also tries to paint the protestors as the extended arm of “foreign intelligence services and their handlers.” - again something we see echoed by authoritarian regimes facing opposition around the world in their attempts at delegitimizing dissent.

It's the same story again and again, authoritarian regimes label those who protest against them as terrorists - this is why an unbiased and universal definition of the term would be needed if it genuinely was to be applied to make the world safer.

In a situation where thousands of protestors have been killed by the regime and people still stand up to protest against the regime it is fairly clear who the oppressor is.

It is of course also worth pondering who is deemed "criminal" and not by the general US population, and why it took the killing of a white woman, a mother who's been a citizen since birth to trigger protests against a government that stats shows murders members of its population every day.

Either way, as people draw comparisons between the US and Iran at the moment I feel like the acceptance of the states divine power to take lives is worth pondering. It's worth asking why that acceptance is so high in the US and what it has done to the population.

Iran and the US both maintain the death penalty - meaning both regimes feel justified in killing those they view as "criminals" - one significant divergrnce is the cultural acceptance of capital punishment in the population. In the US 52-53% support it, compared to 12.7% in Iran based on studies.

Welcome new followers!

Some of you don't necessarily know the whole story of *why* I care so much about the rise of the far right, about countering terrorism, and about building peaceful and thriving societies.

This video is a pretty good intro.
