They dress the wound of my people
as though it were not serious.
“Peace, peace,” they say,
when there is no peace.

I love the God who is behind and beyond anything we could ever say and do about Her.

i need everyone to read The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd. it moved me and brought the world of first-century palestine to life for me in a way that seminary never did. the story is such a beautiful imagination and incredibly well-researched.

I heard a sermon yesterday about how 1) all the lovely things we do are responses to God’s action in the world and 2) that we ought to wait and look for that activity rather than trying to fix things ourselves.

For the most part, it didn’t sit right with me, and I’m trying to figure out why.

where are play, laughter, and silliness in our theologies? today my family and i had to run off the pickleball court to our cars because of sudden intense rain, and we were cackling the whole time. this can be a moment of gratitude to our creator. delight tell us something about who Creator is.

the more i learn about indigenous cosmologies and slowly try to integrate them into my being, the stranger it feels that christianity doesn’t focus on the cycle of seasons.

disconnection from the rest of the natural world is unsettling. colonial. may our liturgies become earthy 🍁
