From the outside looking in, the whole idea of presidential pardons seems like an affront to the little democracy there is. You say 'no kings' but the UK has a king, and there'd be uproar if he had the power to override the law courts in this manner.

There really is no reason that presidents should be able to pardon anyone. Congress --- sure... there are at least some checks on that power... but a sole executive... no... that's a stupid fucking rule.
