In addition, sanctions on Russia should remain in place until Ukraine's territorial integrity has been restored in full, as they should be according to the UN Charter.

All this talk of lifting sanctions if Russia agrees to a ceasefire, is de facto legitimizing changing borders by use of force.
November 30, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Conditions such as
- ceding territory
- caps on the military
- forced neutrality
- forced elections
are only ever imposed on the losing side of a conflict.

They have NO place in a ceasefire under the circumstances of Russia's current war of aggression.

Russia will only accept capitulation ...

I usually call him Jabba "the Toad" Orbán, so "Toad" would be fitting.

However, it doesn't seem to catch the correct odor or consistency - so let's change a couple of letters, and we get

"Turd"

The DOD shopping for any lawyers who would offer a favorable "quasi-legal" opinion regardless of the underlying body of law, is not "entirely" unheard of under this administration.

... or maybe the DOD misrepresented the case by giving a myopic and narrow test scenario, omitting all pesky "facts".
November 29, 2025 at 8:29 AM
When it first was alleged that both civilian and military lawyers had signed off on these strikes as being within not only US laws but also international laws, I wrote that no "reputable" lawyer would ever arrive at such an opinion.

But then ... the DOJ is compromised and most JAGs reassigned.

Who Putin is alluding to are the Ukrainians who fled to Moscow after 2014 and who are living in exile.

Most of them corrupt politicians and oligarchs, all with ties to Putin.

I take it you don't live in a society where trust, respect and honesty are the norm rather than the exception.

People might disagree but they do not slander.

Any allegation would be investigated and if false, the person who brought them would be ostracized.

Equally ?

Corruption in Russia is much more endemic.

Anti-corruption perception list
- Ukraine is ranked 105
- Russia is ranked 154

Could certainly be one way of noticing the go-getters that can be used to your advantage.

Even the impression of impropriety/corruption in government and civil service should cause the involved to tender their resignation.

Your officials may want to take notes ...

Of course, in a society such as yours, someone is sure to use such a notion to leapfrog their superiors ...

Both Budapest and Minsk are so not the right venues for such negotiations (Budapest Memorandum 1994, Minsk I 2014 and Minsk II 2015).

Talk about piling injury to injury.

A slap in the collective face of Ukraine, reminding them of past injustices.

one may also cite Ronald Reagan (paraphrasing Spinoza):

"True peace is not merely the absence of war, it is the presence of justice, freedom, and human rights,"
November 25, 2025 at 8:11 PM
And looking at the formulations in the draft proposal, one may choose to agree with the French marshal Ferdinand Foch's sentiment after reading the Treaty of Versailles:

"This is not a peace. It is an armistice for twenty years."

Or,
November 25, 2025 at 8:11 PM
The entire draft proposal reads this way.

Everyone should remember
- Russia is the aggressor
- Ukraine is the victim

Why the is Ukraine the only country required to make concessions, while Russia only is presented with incentives?

This is NOT peace, it's an armistice - inviting future violation.
November 25, 2025 at 2:59 PM
The question of any restriction on Ukraine's army shouldn't even be raised.

It represents foreign powers dictating how another country manages its national security concerns - a clear infringement upon another nation's sovereignty.

Although Ukraine should work constructively on amendments to the draft, it is important that everyone else, all Ukraine's international partners and domestic supporters in the US, reject the implied ultimatum out of hand.
November 22, 2025 at 11:16 AM
would place the US in violation of the UN Charter and international law.

The first point of the draft reconfirms Ukraine's sovereignty as a nation, but most of the remaining points belies that statement, as they attempt to dictate Ukraine's constitution, orientation and domestic policies.
