Isn't calling a territory "New Russia" a de facto admission that it is NOT "primordial Russian lands" ?

Just sayin' ...

Unfortunately, this is the time when tRump & Co are applying maximum pressure on Ukraine to essentially capitulate to Russia's demands, so they can commence their lucrative side-deals.

tRump desperately wants the war to end by summer, bagging a deal before the 250th, however detrimental to Ukraine

SCOTUS has over the last decades deliberately eroded many of the laws set up to protect against corruption.

An ongoing process to hollow out a niche for the 1% to directly access and steer the bodies politic.

Steadfast civic-mindedness increasingly yields to opportunistic greed - on purpose.

However, only when ICE deliberately killed two people, did people around the country cry out, although their motivations for doing so are mixed.

The actions of the few serve as a rallying cry for the many.
They are infectious and mobilize the entire community towards a shared goal.
More often than not, sustained oppression lead to fear, apathy and division.
Here, Minnesotans show the way - communities standing together is a mighty force.

tRump being the biggest bully on the block and cannot be taken at his word, other nations are diversifying trade, finding alternate markets and decoupling from the US.

It's only natural.
January 27, 2026 at 5:03 PM
Russia will not let go of those oblasts.

Putin cannot renege on conquering them - it would end his regime, as will ending the war prematurely.
January 27, 2026 at 4:59 PM
As long as Russia covets Ukraine's land (and people), the Russians will be back for another bite - if at all possible.

Doesn't matter if Ukraine gives up the Donbas, with tRump being who he is.

Remember also that Russia has annexed Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, and included them in their constitution.

Have you ever heard of an empathetic narcissist ?
January 27, 2026 at 4:09 PM
Of course he cares about other people's problems - but only those that can be monetized for his profit.
January 27, 2026 at 4:00 PM
This takes time.

General re-assignments can only occur AFTER all strategic, tactical and operational issues have been resolved.
January 27, 2026 at 1:49 PM
IMO there is consensus irt a re-balancing of responsibilities within NATO.

Even if the US were to withdraw some of its forces from Europe, some of the larger bases will remain mostly as is, for logistics and forward power-projection.

Plans have to be redrawn and redeployment coordinated.

Your idea is so far-fetched, devoid of logic and removed from any concept of reality, that it might work on someone living in a warped fantasy-world of his own making.

Of course, even believing it just to be awarded a prize for achievements prior to ever taking office is just as delusional.
January 27, 2026 at 10:48 AM
IOW, remaining weak and fractured vassals of the US with no cohesive defense on their own.

New approaches will have to be designed and serious investments made.

NATO needs to reform its structures, strategies and plans.

Where there's a will, there's a way ...

Rutte seems to be living in the past and is an advocate of a status quo that neither USA nor Europe (together with Canada), believe can continue

If, as Rutte seems to want, European nations concentrate on providing distinct capabilities, they can never be more than appendices to the US war machine
January 27, 2026 at 10:32 AM
Oh, everyone who isn't a starry-eyed brown-noser have clearly understood tRump's position in regards to Russia's genocidal war against Ukraine since he first opened his vile mouth on the subject.
January 27, 2026 at 9:58 AM
Whatever happens going forward, NATO will need to reform.
January 27, 2026 at 9:48 AM
Then I would counter that Rutte really hasn't thought things through ...

Welcome to the banana republic !

All dictators must have direct control of and access to capital ... and without any pesky oversight nonsense.

What is a Constitution?
A dictator's words and goals ARE the law ... and may change at any given moment.
January 24, 2026 at 9:59 AM
Of course Putin says he wants peace - and he might even mean it.

But to him, peace can only be achieved thru domination, the total submission/capitulation of everyone around him.
Either as a vassal or as a serf ...

Stand strong and persevere.
January 24, 2026 at 9:37 AM
What dictators fear most is a coup leading to their demise, iow the elite, the intelligence services, security services or the military.

They are not afraid of popular protest (under a certain threshold, that is), as they will be violently suppressed.
