Crime fiction author. Love reading them. Love writing them. Welcome to the Dark Side!
Ain't that the truth! We're living a Master Class on how to remain focused.
My hat off to writers. It's more than creating the idea and an ability to write, but staying focused. Aside from typical distractions, I find the new shiny story ideas to be the greatest hurdle.

Your writing process will change on a daily basis with every project, because every project is different. Whatever gets you to the final product is the way that that book needed to be written.

So I need you to stop scrolling and say this aloud right now.

"My writing process is not broken."

Just finished the first draft of a fun new short story...Blow. It's 1930, The Great Depression. Survival in a dying town depends on three things…who you trust, getting creative, and not getting caught. Hob and his ride-or-die, Lucy, are pushing the limits of all three, and it’s all about to blow.

Slow-burn twisty, con...my favorite. Hey writers, do you take them apart in your head? "A very nice place for a twist," or "Way to leave 'em hangin'!"

All these people talking about how writing is dead, books are dead. Bullshit.

Corporations are attempting to exploit writers and turn them into marketers precisely because writing/books are NOT dead, because writers are good at what they do and people are hungry — will always be hungry—for stories.

Just binge watched John le Carre's The Night Manager. Still love his characters.

Forget the groundhog! My doorbell is ringing every few minutes with solar sales guys and lawn services offers. It's spring...in the South, anyway.

Choosing a location for a new mystery/suspense WIP is always fun, but I've hit a snag. It needs to be a small tourist area, but it isn't a cozy. A Colorado hot springs community or Carolina beach community? I can take either a little dark. Okay, readers, which would you reach for?

Seriously, he doesn't hear the keys for one minute, and I get the eye. Okay, but tomorrow I get to look for more writers on Bluesky.
Back to work...
