I've always found lower-rating product reviews a quick way to check whether I can deal with a product's deficits, e.g., this tool when mounted on the extension is really unbalanced and therefore hard to use.

If you must answer the phone from unrecognized callers, here's a way to end soliciting but not legitimate calls.
Caller: This is _ calling from _
Me: Who are you trying to reach? (repeat as needed)
Often this is enough for them to hang up first but today, a guy lost it yelling, "Listen to me, ok!"
