Last spring, ~5,700 employees of DOI bureaus—including ~1,700 NPS staff were forcibly & unexpectedly moved to the “DOI Office of the Secretary,” almost an entire new agency. This huge illegal reorganization was done without congressional approval and included HR, IT, comms & contracts staff.

🇺🇸 This #Veterans Day, honor our vets by sharing the facts. For many veterans, service doesn’t end when they come home. Veterans make up nearly 1 in 4 federal employees, and 15% of the National Park Service. The federal government is the largest employer of veterans in the country. #VeteransDay #NPS

Since January, more than 25% of NPS's permanent staff have been lost - and another mass layoff is on the horizon. Parks were already understaffed before this, and terminating more staff positions will decimate our National Park System.

Federal workers are the families working without pay, applying for loans & struggling to feed our families. And we will hold the line for these services. 💪

A shutdown will make an already bad situation at our national parks worse.

Leaving parks open w/out staff = vandalism, trash, human waste, unsafe conditions.

Parks aren’t meant to run themselves. If the government shuts down, so should the parks.
