I’m approaching 50 and never seen Ferris Bueller’s Day off. I’ve seen all the 80s flicks but never that one, then kept not-seeing it just to hear people exclaim “you’ve never seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off???” I inexplicably cherish this uniqueness over seeing the movie. It’s my one troll.

The best slept on feature of DnDBeyond is the pronunciation icon next to monster names for the 2014 Monster Manual. I wish we had these for everything. Without this I would not realize “Sahuagin” sounds like “Hooligan” and not saw-hway-jin (I was way off).

Edgar Wright is usually great but the new Running Man is a hot mess. But I followed it up with Predator Badlands a few days later and that was the perfect popcorn movie. Simple. Fun. Knew what it was trying to do and did it. It was also under 2 hours which is such a bonus these days.

@wotc-news.bsky.social I have a request, can we sunset the format in adventures where you mention skill checks with the ability first? Like saying “must make a DC 13 Wisdom (Survival) check”. Can we just say “DC 13 Survival check?” I’m pretty sure it’s how many of us DMs write it down anyway.

The 10 year old kid at the beginning of our DnD game just now: "So, you guys hear the new Pope just dropped?"

OMG, I just gave the beholder of our D&D game a corny accent where he says "bro" all the time and the kids in the group immediately dubbed him "the broholder." He is now transitioning into an NPC.

As much as I’m looking forward to Andor Season 2, I think I might be looking forward to @mattcolville.bsky.social takes on it just as much.

Does anyone else feel like there's nothing wrong with the world that couldn't be fixed by a new Fugazi album? I feel like we really need a new Fugazi album. Or just a tour would be great. Thanks for attending my TED talk.

My players could call me out on this so, so often.
I often question the logistics of dungeon ecology.

There are ALOT of promising TTRPGs coming out this year. The reason I think #DrawSteel has an (ahem) edge is the VTT angle. If they can successfully launch a VTT custom built for their game I think they will have cornered a very large market that’s been widely ignored.

Ok hear me out. Taylor Kitsch is the star of American Primeval but all I remember of him is starring in John Carter of Mars so I’m watching AP like it’s a rugged sequel to JC and it actually kind of works? #AmericanPrimeval

The other night I discovered “Vorpal” is not a scrabble word and I feel betrayed by my childhood. #DnD

The thing about this is that I don’t know if it’s real or it’s fake before clicking on it because there’s the Onion AV club and that’s not fake so it’s feasible he did an interview with The Onion right?

Whoever says you don’t “win” at #DND obviously never played with the 10 year old girl who homebrewed The Omulet (a small frying pan pendant that grows full size and magically makes omelets) into my game.

This year let’s try to remember it’s not just about blood for the blood god, there’s also skulls for the skull throne. That last part always gets left out but it’s important.

This is worse than when they removed the “insert fork” decals from wall sockets. What happened to my childhood???

Pursue your passions the way John Scalzi does.
Happy New Year! Today is an important day for me: it's the 20th(!) anniversary of the release of Old Man's War. On my site I write about how this unusual, not-actually-great release date turned out to be a blessing, and where the book and series go from here:

20 Years of Old Man’s War
In retrospect, Tor Books officially releasing Old Man’s War on January 1, 2005, doesn’t seem like a huge vote of confidence in the novel. One, the holiday season is over and all the spe…

Said in one of my DnD games today: it’s not cannibalism. I’m a Dragonborn.

I used to get hangovers. Now I get work overs. It's when I stay up too late working the night before, have more work I need to do the next day, but am so tired from the night before I'm moving too slow to get it done, regretting staying up late.

I’m kinda interested in the notion of more historical TTRPGs. No fantasy (tho obviously fiction). Seeing this made me think more about it. www.nationsandcannons.com
