This is a really good way of looking at art -- "The conversational partner changed" is SUCH a good way of phrasing how I personally see art/writing/music/etc.

It's similar to the way Harry Potter immediately soured for me because engaging with it while knowing the kind of heart Rowling is writing from changes the way the work feels; there isn't any moralizing or whatever that I have to do, it's easy to drop it because it's rotted in my hands. "Oh but you LIKED this song before, nothing changed!" The conversational partner did. A very large portion of what is interesting to me about art is thinking of why the creator chose that instrumentation, or what made them want to make the thing in the first place. Finding out I've been talking to a wall completely removes an entire third of the force that art is to me, and I can't argue that anything about art or its consumption is Objectively Correct but I can argue it's fucking boring lmao

oh damn, i missed national pencil day! that's what i use most of the time, even if i don't post most of it
A chitinous bug monster, was based very loosely on chasmfiends from stormlight practice with drawing perspective and general shapes. a tree fort with sparse leaves in the foreground lighting shading practice of my hand, very closeup a very messy centaur without a face, flexing and with their human torso turned halfway around. lots of ovals from defining the shapes are still present

much more representative of my usual quality than my backlog was lol
wide view of sketches, described further on in more detail closeup of a little lizrman goin' like "woo!!! surprise!" closeup of a lizard/snake/wingless dragon wrapped around the top of a pencil, supporting its weight on the eraser mostly closeup of my attempt at a frontal dragon face view. i don't think it went great, but i don't hate it either. also uses hatching shading, which i don't usually use

My friend's dnd character was a warlock with a Fathomless patron. This was my take on their bargain being struck on the seabed

The piece is drawn entirely using horizontal pencil lines. There's a small humanoid silhouette of negative space standing. It is in facing an enormous serpentine entity, and their posture implies they're asking it for something. The entity is formed of bone, primarily a skull and spine, though some ribs are also near the skull. This entity is also formed mostly of negative space, the area around it much more densely filled in. There is a skull of an ambiguous creature to the humanoid's left, and a derelict half-shipwreck to their right. Under the drawing is the text "Day 12: Forget"
