Some of the politicians in Lithuania start complaining that "there's too much Russian language on the streets of Vilnius".

Is it just populism, or are they preparing an excuse for Russia to invade to "protect Russians"?

You can still feel the remnants of it in older people's mentality, as well as in ugly buildings in the centers of our buildings.
OTD in 1940, Soviet Forces, who were in Baltic countries as a result of absolutely nothing to do with our treaty with Nazis, held ‘elections’ whose results were released day before vote. The Baltic countries then ‘voluntarily’ joined USSR ‘on a contractual basis’

Lavrov directly says that Russia will not leave Ukraine "under the rule of Zelensky's junta" and will not allow Ukraine to live according to the laws it adopted.

Russia's ambitions extend far beyond the "four regions", for Russia, this is a question of the existence of Ukraine as a state.

Just at the same moment when Peskov talked about readiness for bilateral negotiations with Ukraine regarding a ban on strikes on civilian targets, Russia struck Zaporizhzhia with a guided bomb.

Residential building. A 69-year-old woman died. 22 more wounded, among them four children.

A great analysis of the reasons why Putin invaded Ukraine (no, it's not NATO expansion), and why he's not going to stop the war.

War vs. economy: can Putin be seduced to stop his aggression against Ukraine?
With negotations ongoing, there are hopes that the Trump administration can pressure Vladimir Putin into cooperating towards a ceasefire in Ukraine,...

Just a few months ago, a lot of people were calling Zelenskii "a USA puppet" and claiming that the USA was at war with Russia "until the last Ukrainian".

(As if they ever cared about Ukrainians)

I'd love to talk with these people now.

Sooo Trump said he was sending "his men" to Russia to discuss the ceasefire right away. Are they still packing? Are they about to land in Moscow? Who's coming?
March 13, 2025 at 8:33 AM
We can use Trump's mood swings and confusing messages for our personal growth. We can learn to tune out verbal noise, both his and coming from the army of his commentators, even though it sounds like the world is crashing.

Words are just words, let's wait for actions. And donate to UAF.

Values of my Mom (and also of 99% of the educated class in the 80's USSR):
- USSR is shit
- The West is awesome
- Nationalists, stalinists, KGB are the worst

She hated Putin from the very first year.

My prediction stays the same as a few months ago. Trump won't be able to force a peaceful deal. A ceasefire, maybe. But with Russia demanding Kherson and Zaporizhe, it's too much even for Trump. And Lavrov just confirmed that.

It might change a few months later but Trump needs something now.

While most of the important figures of the Russian opposition in exile don't openly state their position on armed support for Ukraine, their supporters don't hide that they are opposed to donating to AFU because "they are killing our citizens" (read: invaders).

About the value of human life.

People keep saying that Zelensky should sign any peace deal that Putin will offer him because "human lives are more important".

Ukraine gave away Crimea because human lives. The "peaceful" occupation turned into a war in Donbas.
February 13, 2025 at 3:14 PM
Let's be honest. What is the worst thing that can happen after Trump offers a deal that is unacceptable to Ukraine?

Stop the military and financial aid? Highly likely. That won't stop Ukraine from fighting because Europe will increase its help.

Lift economic sanctions from Russia? Also likely. ⬇️

The EU prolonged sanctions against Russia, including freezing access to Russian money.

Vatniks are celebrating, saying Orban forced the EU to include gas transit.

If Putin withdraws Russian troops from Ukraine, vatniks will celebrate, too. "Trump had to agree to Putin's terms", they will say.

It always starts with "We are a great nation!", it's *always* the first step.

It can stop there but also move to "We need to be strong".

Then in no time, it's "Our enemies want us to be weak to defeat us" and all the way down to "We must eradicate inner enemies to protect our great country".
Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

I'm not a big fan of conservatism, but in times of war moderate right politicians prove to be the most sane people. Especially the ones close to the border with Russia.

We need you, Gabrielius Landsbergis, and we need other politicians to hear your voice.
"Russia isn’t going away. And this version of Russia, this aggressive, imperialistic Russia, the one that attacks its neighbors, isn’t going away. It's here to stay. &we'll have to deal with it," former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis @glandsbergis.bsky.social said

I wish we lived in a world where it wouldn't be necessary.

I wish Lithuania was a big strong country that could defend itself just like Ukraine.

But even if 6% GDP looks laughable compared to Russia, we can only ask our allies for protection if we're doing what we can ourselves.
❗️🇱🇹Lithuania to increase defense spending to 6% of GDP

Such defense spending is to occur between 2026 and 2030.

Does anyone still remember about "Oreshnik"? Looks like even Russians forgot about it.

But I still remember how peaceniks from all over the world were spreading fears about WWIII because of Biden allowing missile strikes into Russian territory.
