Does anybody know how to get back the counter on the #Goodreads?! I need to know how far behind I am with my reading challenge throughout the year. I only work well under pressure!

Etymology of the day: before a tapering piece of hanging ice was called an ‘icicle’ it was an ‘ickle’. In the Middle Ages people decided to add ‘ice’ for extra oomph and (tautologically) called it an ‘ice ickle’, until the two words eventually blended together.

Does anywhere in the UK host a primary level spelling bee?! 🐝 Nothing too scary or serious!

Can you see the end of KS2 data for spelling for 23/24 or do they only publish the data combined with grammar? ✍🏼

I started at a new school in September. This week, I started in my new role leading reading, writing and spelling! We still have a whole school English Lead and I’m so excited to support her and get back to leading what I love! 📚

I have gained over 100 followers in two days even though I haven’t posted for a very long time?! So here is my reason why! I have moved school AND home recently and my main priority has been making all my books happy in their own new homes 🥹

Serious post:

Look after yourself this year.

Doing ‘what’s best for the kids’ does not (and *must* not) necessitate the compromise of your health - mental and physical.

It just isn’t worth it. *You* matter.

Assert your boundaries unabashedly.

You got this!

When was the last time you read a children's book?
What was the last book you read that was from another country?

Well, September is the perfect time to try both together!

Have always wondered why ‘for’ is a coordinating conjunction when it basically means ‘because’, but ‘because’ is a subordinating conjunction. Anyway, found this explanation and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before 🤯 grammar is mad

Turns out the best way to have an argument-free family holiday is to spend time outdoors. Without the family 🤪

My fourth read this week! 4/5 ⭐️

This was such a clever book and I think UKS2 would love it. I have quite a few books written by Ross Welford at home and I’m excited to try some more once I’m back 📚

I know lots of people use “Rose Blanche” when they study World Wars but here is a blog of other picturebooks I would use, all are true stories, wonderfully told and illustrated. They are powerful and moving and about the small actions that make a difference. smithsmm.wordpress.com/2023/12/29/u...
Using picturebooks to broaden understanding…Books for studying World War 2.
Just thought I’d put together a collection on picturebooks I would use if I were teaching World War II. In the past I’ve used a range of books to expand understanding about subjects. However the fact ...

Today’s holiday read was recommended by my 8 year old niece (who has never read it) so I’m not sure giving my honest review would be very fair.

However, I did enjoy this piece of advice at the end of the book 🥹

(Probably 4/5 ⭐️ if I were a 12 year old girl…)

I recently finished The Good Neighbour.

I know the book would have been much shorter but it was annoying me that she didn’t speak to the police. Interesting plot line though.
