We also conduct experimental research - particularly on the impact of different environmental chemical pollutants on #AMR 💊🚜

We process our monitoring samples in a variety of ways, which include #phenotypic testing for #AMR, as well as using #molecular methods such as #qPCR and #sequencing to look for specific antimicrobial resistance genes 🦠🧬👩‍🔬🧫

We undertake research monitoring AMR in many different environments (water 🌊, wastewater 💩, air 💨, soil 🌱 & plants 🌿), which means we get out in the field a lot!

Over the summer, @amycthorpe.bsky.social presented at @sedadnasociety.bsky.social in Tromsø, Norway. Amy presented her research using lake sedimentary #DNA to reconstruct historical #microbial dynamics in the Lake District in response to nutrient status 🦠🧬🌊

Finally, @susheelbusi.bsky.social is the Head of our Molecular Ecology group. Susheel's research focuses on understanding microbial communities in soil & freshwater ecosystems, particularly how they mediate nutrient cycling, antimicrobial resistance, & ecosystem responses to environmental change 🦠🌱🌊

Lucy Akinmosin is the Institute Lab Manager for UKECH Wallingford. Lucy is the main point of contact for our research teams for anything lab management related. Her role includes lab inductions, inspections, health & safety and maintenance of lab spaces, ensuring the labs run smoothly 🧪🥼🔬
