I can’t believe my eyes & ears… Mark Carney, how you kept it together in that insulting torrent of verbal (And probably literal) diarrhoea beggars belief. OMG😳

@carolecadwalla.bsky.social with a powerful talk on broligarchy & authoritarianism.

Can't even pick a quote, because every other sentence is worth a quotation.

Aussies… Share and share widely.
The LNP don't like their own words repeated back to them, which is why they're infuriated by this ad.

Which is also why you should share it.

AI: The New Aesthetics of Fascism
It's embarrassing, destructive, and looks like shit: AI-generated art is the perfect aesthetic form for the far right.

Your 'moment of doom' for Mar. 22, 2025 ~

"But what happens when adaptation is no longer possible? When the air is not just bad but unbreathable? When the water is not just rising but drowning cities? When heat is not just uncomfortable but unsurvivable?"

We are in the middle of a climate apocalypse. But do we really care?
The problem with the soft apocalypse is that it is still an apocalypse. It still ends in collapse. We tell ourselves we have time, that the worst is always just ahead, that we will act when we must

One way or another, usually cut out and blue-tacked to a fridge, Leunig’s images have been with me for as long as I can remember. He defined an elusive human quality with humour, irreverence and occasionally, bite. A light has gone out today. Goodbye Michael Leunig.

I’m a regular listener to Scriptnotes, a podcast hosted by John August & Craig Mazin about screenwriting. Their most recent episode about generative AI is fascinating and despairing. If you string words together for fun or profit, have a listen. Then a drink.

Having nuanced conversation in the pub tonight with scientifically literate friends… But when discourse edges toward dealing with collapsing biosphere & runaway climate change (which they acknowledge btw) I get bashed as the “de-growth guy”. I struggle to see how managed stasis isn’t inevitable.

Ate at a cheap as chips Malaysian restaurant in Walthamstow, East London today with another expat Aussie who’s into his food. A good solid 8 out of 10 I reckon. 2 seafood curry laksa’s, a vegetarian roti to share, and 2 Malay chai’s; just under £30. What you can find to eat in London is amazing.

11 year old son hit 5 foot today. He was in the loo having a poo and beat-boxing (as is his habit) when I did the conversion from metric. I told him through the closed door. He broke off from a particularly complicated section and said “Yay”. Funny.

The sad truth of the business I love and which has been the making of me.
British television is dying — and Gogglebox won’t save it
With no one daring to take a chance on new formats and 68 per cent of freelancers out of work, the once world-leading UK TV industry is in terminal decline
