It’s so interesting to see how recognizable the Tiwanaku style is in this woven medium. The ceramics are much more commonly preserved, but it’s clearly the same palette and the same puma fixation.

I toured the US Capitol earlier this year; a lot of the art in the rotunda is like this or worse. They also used Gast’s painting in the video. If someone has written a book about portrayals of Native Americans in the Capitol, it would be fascinating! Including this, “The Baptism of Pocahontas”:
