"When it comes to Barron’s new First Things article about Pope Francis’ legacy, nobody dumbs down the teachings of the late pontiff quite like Bishop Barron."

Tired tropes and crying 'confusion,' Barron struggles to 'fully' embrace Francis

Bishop Barron Dumbs Down the Papacy
Bishop Robert Barron of Word on Fire has made a career out of promoting the new evangelization and combating what he calls the “dumbing-down” of Catholicism. Yet, when it comes to Barron’s new First T...

I need to finish reading this but what I’ve read so far is very good. Too many RW Catholics seem to think “clarity” is a core part of the faith. Also the idea that Francis actually promoted confusion is silly if you actually read what he wrote and said

I was so happy @ctrlamb.bsky.social asked me abt #Conclave.

I wouldn't have thought a great #Catholic film could be made in 2024, and I was delighted to be wrong abt that. If you haven't seen it, I hope this @CNN write-up nudges you toward the ticket counter.
How realistic is ‘Conclave,’ the movie?

It tries to showcase the battle for the soul of the church that takes place during a papal election & examines the tension between the demands of faith and the desire for high office.

How realistic is ‘Conclave,’ the movie that lifts the lid on how a pope is elected? | CNN
This has been a blockbuster election year politically, so it’s fitting that a new movie shines a light on an ancient and highly secretive voting process: the selection of a new pope.

Since the election, I've thought a lot about Alan Moore's "Miracleman" and particularly about the villain, Johnny Bates. It's a parable about the dangers of never growing up, of being given power at an early age, and the inevitable tyranny of boyish fantasies...

Just started on this app. I'm still navigating my social media, but I thought I'd give this a try and see how it compares to Twitter. Let me know if we're newly connected and who you are. I'm a franciscan friar studying theology in Chicago. I especially enjoy the connection of pop culture + religion
