I am far from an expert on BBC politics nor do I know whether or not the BBC program messed up. But I feel pretty certain that whatever mistake was made, it was exaggerated and weaponized, in bad faith, by Trump and his right-wing UK allies to achieve exactly this.

By contrast, consider the full-out freaks outs over the campaigns of Bernie Sanders and Fetterman being briefly cagey over their respective (less public) medical emergencies. Or HRC's Faint-gate.

As you note, he was clearly shot at, and at very least, grazed by a bullet. Problem is, there was close to zero transparency involved-- and worse, virtually zero pushback from major media outlets demanding details or even making it an issue that the campaign/doctors offered few details
