Only skimmed "dictatorship on trial" by @turtelista.bsky.social so far but the acknowledgements crediting Thai Lawyers for Human rights & others in its writing gives me confidence its going to be solid.

A sentence that jumped out:

"Joy exists alongside, and is necessary for the stuggle..."

These days, in many places, many things can’t be said directly. Can we say them in poetry? @asiancha.bsky.social is seeking poems and translations for our ongoing series “Fight with Words, Write to Power” (in short, “Write to Power”). We welcome Asia-focused works. chajournal.blog/2025/11/03/w...

I translated three letters written by "Get" Sophon Surattithamrong, currently imprisoned for lese majeste in Thailand for @indexoncensorship.org. Get writes with an expansive solidarity and links past and present struggles in Thailand to the history of #Gwangju and the #MilkTeaAlliance.
Activist Sophon “Get” Surattithamrong is serving an 8.5 sentence in #Thailand for taking part in the 2020 protests. While imprisoned, he's been writing steadily about democracy in Thailand, South Korea & Myanmar. We’ve publish 3 of his letters: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

One of my favorite @turtelista.bsky.social (Tyrell Haberkorn) books, probably the one I think with most often.

The argument, now deeply relevant in the US, is that autocrats intentionally flaunt abuses of power precisely to normalize those abuses.

I'm appalled but unfortunately unsurprised to hear that ICE is targeting my neighbors in Rogers Park today. Unidentifiable and unaccountable agents are roaming the streets with their faces covered targeting schools and community centers. It needs to end. Abolish ICE.

So grateful to write for @dissentmag.bsky.social's Fall 2025 issue "Authoritarianism and Resistance." I drafted the piece in June with the new school year in mind, as an immigrant scholar severed from her homeland: What can we teach the young about how to exist and persist at this historic juncture?

They have just enough (im)plausible deniability here to say that it’s about the Ride of the Valkyries scene from Apocalypse Now but yeah that’s the “game” they are playing
If you're conversant in the lingua franca of the online right, you know the helicopter emojis the official White House account is using here are a reference to the Pinochet dictatorship's practice of flying people above the ocean and dropping them to disappear them.

That's what they're threatening.
