Got a beautiful new toy that I’m finding I keep staring at endlessly. A magnetically levitating D20 that’s also weighted for proper rolls. It’ll live in my home office (not pictured).

It’s an Ascendice 2 from a Kickstarter I backed last year.

I forever associate Donkey Kong Country 2 on SNES with the flu because I played through it as a teenager while being incredibly sick.

Similarly Planescape: Torment is associated with heavy fever as I had one when I was in the store buying it on release. 😂
#DailyGamingDiscussion : Have you ever played a video game while severely ill, recovering from surgery, etc? Did it comfort you and help you get through that time? Does it still remind you of those days?

16) Stole this one from a recent skeet I saw:

If generative AI could REALLY make the next GTA in 6 months with 10 staff, or write the next bestseller, or produce 10 blockbusters a day? They wouldn't be trying to sell it to YOU. They would keep it for themselves and guard it from you ferociously.

Really the only two pull-quotes you need from this article (🎁).

1. Tech companies’ interest in AI for game development cannot be divorced from their desire to trap developers in expensive service contracts
2. AI gameplay creates new costs for games being played, which will be passed on to players.

Being vague on what the Switch 2 benefits are is a sure fire way to make your socials blow up I guess.
- The Switch version will average a 30 FPS experience at launch.

- The game will be playable on Switch 2 through backward compatibility and will benefit from the console's specs.

- Other platforms (PC, Steam Deck, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox Series X|S) will have a solid 60 FPS experience.

Credits rolling on Donkey Kong Bananza.

One word.

Fucking-amazing-probably-the-best-platformer-Nintendo-has-ever-made-GOTY.

The way the game builds on its mechanics throughout the game and the escalation in level design is a case study in excellent game design.

This is why games spend 7 years in preproduction only to get cancelled.

Thoroughly enjoyed Superman.

A great Superman, right amount of charm, with a great supporting cast. Chemistry is off the charts. A Terrific cast you might say..

Solid fun story that drops you right into it but takes care to not rush things.
Was like a breath of fresh air for comic book movies.

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

An unfolding UPS delivery story:

Last Friday a package being sent to me from France got misrouted to ICELAND instead of IRELAND. “Out for delivery” to my house, except it’s the wrong country.

It went France -> Germany -> Denmark -> Iceland.

I spoke with UPS and told them to send back to origin.

Never played Mario Galaxy back when it came out, so I’m taking the opportunity of the Switch 2 honeymoon to play the 3D Allstars release and it’s lovely but man Lumas(?) have heavy demands for Mario, poor man’s exhausted.

I love the Genki Attack Vector grips. Default size. Been using them a bunch last few days. Not seeing any of the fit issues that supposedly surround them. They and the backplate fit perfectly with no issues in the dock, though I primarily bought these to use the grip pieces on their own.

My favourite solo dev is Sid Meier. That guy makes a lot of quality games and has been for decades now. Inspiring. 🙏
