#France is in a mess. The country has burnt through more PMs than the #UK - not an enviable record. #Macron is a total lame-duck and calls for his resignation have grown louder. But perhaps, there is a way out. This blog looks at how we got here & where we go next: open.substack.com/pub/tsareill...
France's Endless Political Crisis
With seven PMs in 8 years, Macron's Presidency risks ending in ignominy. The options open to him seem limited. But just perhaps a compromise has magicked way out of the Rabbit Hole.

#Trump’s nationalist populist assault on civil liberties, press freedoms & the separation of powers reveals a nightmarish world vision where might is right & being in power justifies its abuse. It is a virus which is spreading round the world. A blog: open.substack.com/pub/tsareill...
Trump’s World Vision: The Stuff of Nightmares
If Trump has a coherent world vision, it is one wrapped in the myopia of nativist, populist nationalism, built on the nihilistic destruction of globalisation. And it is spreading like a virus.

Thursday’s #UK elections were disastrous for the #Tories. But if I was #Labour, I would be desperately worried. Their #Parliamentary majority does not translate into widespread popular support. They need to find a reason for Government: and fast. A blog: open.substack.com/pub/tsareill...
UK Local Elections – Decimation for the Tories; Deep Concern for Labour
The Tories were crushed on Thursday. But the story for Labour is no less dire. The Party needs to find a reason for government. And fast, or the future looks bleak indeed.

It is the wrong response to say that #Trump has brought #globalisation to an end & condemn it as a failure. It’s not perfect but the post WW2 era has seen unprecedented rises in prosperity. We should defend those gains & seek to improve the system. A blog; www.treillygeopolitical.fr/post/trump-a...
Trump And Globalisation
If it can be argued that WW2, was at least in part, caused by the economic mayhem of the 1930s, when protectionism converted a bad recession into a depression, then it can also be argued that globalis...

This is really something. Tariffs, being easy to enforce, probably have a much greater impact than sanctions.
List of countries not subjected to tariffs:

Russia
Belarus
North Korea
Cuba

They apparently took the time to impose tariffs on several uninhabited islands, so the omissions are extra noteworthy. If you spot others please flag!
