The irony here is painful.

Alice Wong wrote a column for Vogue called Disability Visibility. You can still find all her writing for Vogue under her author name.

But *Disability Visibility* - also the name of the advocacy group she launched - has been erased.

Exactly how disabled people often are.
The new owners of Teen Vogue have already erased her column.

Today I am going to the #ODSP office for an input session to comment and critique the current system, point out its flaws and suggest changes that would make our lives better. I do not expect anything to come from it, but I am going to go give my opinions and let it be on record.
I have linked my years of #disability, homelessness and lived experience advocacy:

LINKTREE: linktr.ee/odspoor

Interviews (TVO, CTV W5, CBC, Al Jazeera, The Walrus, Trillium), podcast: The Pwdcast, legislated poverty, #MAiD coercion and inadequate supports like #pwd, #aish or #odsp/ow in Ontario.

Even worse, rather than take responsibility for the screw up the Houston Police Chief is blaming the child.

Saying he gave them incorrect information and casting doubt on whether he’s “actually autistic” because he was able to communicate.

Ableism and bigotry on full display here.

Telling people to “tough it out” when they’re sick is ableism.

Saying that autism is “unacceptable” is eugenics.

Bragging about the strong people who don’t take meds or vaccines? It infers that those who need medications are weak.

It’s all eugenics. This regime sees disabled people as less than.

Really looking forward to even tighter restrictions on pain relief for people with uteruses (the most in pain demographic) because hypothetical fetuses might hypothetically get autism. Meanwhile autistic people have chronic pain. And gestate autistic babies.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

We rarely see the impact we have on others’ lives.

For us, it’s often a tiny act or the number one added to some viewcount.

For them, it’s the kindness that sparked hope in life or the reading that infused their existence with new meaning.

I've gotten good at making myself *seem* calm, distant & emotionally flat as a survival strategy for interacting w/ the healthcare system as a disabled person of a marginalized gender. But it's become a habit spilling over into other parts of my life & I have a hard time externally showing emotion.

Reminder that behind a social media avatar is a real person with thoughts & feelings. Within the disability community MANY of us have sensitive or dysregulated nervous systems.

Be kind … these online connections are a literal lifeline & fighting or harassment can and does lead to physical harm

We keep telling you: ANYONE can become disabled at ANY time.

Nondisabled people mistakenly think that statement is referring to the imagined "horror" of inhabiting a disabled body--not the terror of the systems that *permit* us to live (while profitable) or condemn us to die (once "burdensome") 🙃

This is why it’s important to understand how lived experience and socialisation may have affected us. Negative reactions to our Autistic selves may have led us to suppress traits that would support autism diagnosis. They may only emerge when we’re stressed or when we’re alone and relaxed.

ICYMI: This week’s article is about radical rest, harmful inner monologues and the ways in which we gaslight ourselves & push our bodies beyond what they’re capable of.

When society makes it clear that productivity is the marker of a person’s worth - is it any surprise we struggle to slow down?
It's Time to Throw Away the 'Coulda, Woulda, Shouldas' and Practice Radical Rest
When you're chronically ill you can't push your body the way non disabled people do. You have to learn to rest. There's few words more damaging to us than the 'coulda, woulda, shouldas'
